Hi all, just returned from my first trip to Tunisia and I had a great time. Weather was good on the whole, a little rain and a little overcast sometimes but glorious sunshine too and when it was hot, it was hot!! We stayed at the Royal Kenz in PEK and I must say this is a fantastic hotel. The building work is non existent unless you think a man painiting a wall or assembling a sun lounger is building work. The staff, the food, the rooms were all fantastic. We shared a dining table at dinner and we met a lovely couple who we became very good friends with.
We went into PEK a few times, took us 25minute walk along the front or about 35minutes via the beach. I did like the marina but as its all man made so it's very like lego land I did really like Sousse.
Night time wise we stayed in the hotel mainly but did go into PEK to see the fountains and have a few drinks at the marina and some karaoke at the irish bar (which isn't irish at all ). The entertainment was fine in the hotel and there were so many bars to go to there. Also we made some really good friends at the hotel so we had a great time every night and enjoyed many a local tipple !
As a young female I had a great time. Clothes wise I wore what I would on any other holiday but you just have to remember the less you wear the more attention you get and it isn't always good attention. So use your common sense. I wouldnt go into my city centre in a pair of shorts and a bikini at home so don't there.
We done the 2 day sahara trip and it was outstanding. Tunisia is a mangnificant country and we learned so much on that 2 day trip and really saw Tunisia.
We done so much on this holiday that our photos and stories of the holiday are so good , we went camel riding and parachuting to name a few, what a holiday!
So would I go back to Tunisia....in a heartbeat
I'm so pleased you enjoyed Tunisia and it looks as if, like quite a few of us, you will be going back again. As you say PEK is 'man-made' but a lovely place to wander round and sit people watching, though personally I prefer to stay in Sousse, which is handy for the buses, trains and metro if you want to explore further afield. I'm glad you managed to fit in the Sahara trip as it is certainly worth doing, though it can be tiring.
Greenshoes, hi. You must have really enjoyed your holiday as I did last November. Isn't the Sahara trip amazing? That was definately the highlight of my holiday and although very tiring, so what? I was on holiday and just had a lazy day the day after it. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking of Tunisia this year.
Another one bites the dust? Glad you enjoyed your holiday, some place ?
The Sahara trip is a MUST for anyone travelling to Tunisia. Im already planning my next trip. I really want to tour the North next time and see Tunis while Im there. I think next time we would try Sousse and possibly go in mid June.
However, I have driven my own Land Rover all the way to the desert and spent over two weeks travelling around down there. No big hotels for us though, we use the tent on the roof.
But yes the desert is a fantastic place, in Douz last year I experienced my first sand storm, I'm glad I was in Douz, not the middle of the desert.
Sorry, not trying to gloat, just liking the fact that people do like to experience the desert as I do myself.

Do you have any idea on the cost of the sahara trip these days anyone??
Off the top of my head lisa, i think it was around £80=175 dinar in April.
175 dinar plus extra money if you want to do the camel ride and horses while you are on the trip. That includes all meals but not drinks and an overnight stay in a hotel
