Hi
Hoping to go Kefalonia for the first ever around 16 Sepember and wondered which of these two resorts you prefer.
Do think Skala and Lassi maybe too commercial for us reading forums etc as tend to prefer the less spoilt more laid back places.
Any advice would be appreciated and recommendations who to go through without it costing arm and a leg.
Including flights and transfer our budget would be £1000/£1200 for just a week ideally B&B.
PS any one used Agni Travel? They seem to reply very swiftly but read a bad report about them on another site.
thanks
We stayed in Assos in 2007 and really loved the place. It is small and very laid back with just a handful of tavernas (all good). We visited Agia Efimia and though I've also heard good reports about it and it certainly didn't look over-commercialised, we though Assos had much more character.
We went with Ionian Island Holidays who are very good but not very cheap - though I think you could probably just about squeeze into your budget. I think all their Assos properties include hire cars too, which is worth considering - the area is well worth exploring. It's worth checking if they still have any early booking offers and you can also get some good late deals. We went as part of a twin centre holiday with Ithaca, staying the second week in Assos. The Sea Path studio was beautiful and the Cavos Inn, where we met the rep, looked very nice too. I wrote a trip report at the time on here - the Kefalonia part is about half way down the page.

We would definately return to Assos!
Can definitely second Assos; it's beautiful. Everytime we have been to Kefalonia we go to Assos for the day and think about staying but think it might be just a bit too quiet for us . I also like Agia Efimia but the last time we were in Kefalonia (about 4 years ago) I thought it looked a bit 'run down' with a couple of places closed? Someone who has been more recently might be better qualified to comment. We have stayed in Skala and didnt like it at all but found the next resort (can't think of the name) very nice for a drink in the evening (where the ferries are). Have also stayed in Lassi and Sami. I thought Lassi was OK because of its close proximity to Argostoli where we used to go and sit in the square and watch the World go by. Let us know where you decide.
Assos is certainly in the most beautiful part of the island with Fiscardo, and Myrtos close at hand and some lovely drives over the mountain to some isolated beaches on the east coast with lovely views across to Ithaca.
I would personally choose Aghia Efima, because there are more bars and restaurants to chose from and it is still very quiet........apart from when the day trippers stop by! Other parts of the island are easily accessible from here too.
Everyone has their own opinions and given the choice of the two places, Aghia Efima would be mine. However, i always stay down in Poros!!

Hi John. Was hoping you would drop by and post a comment. We always liked Agia Efimia and thought we would stay there but ended up in Sami Do you know the place I'm talking about just past Skala?

Hi, The place you mention down past Skala where the ferries come in is where i stay........Poros!! I have been staying there since 2002.sometimes twice a year!...It's heaven!
We always stay in the Dionysos studios in the port area.

Hi John. We much preferred Poros to Skala (Skala didn't do it for us at all). Haven't been to Kefalonia for about 4/5 years; discovered Parga, love the place and its definitely on our list of places to visit again and again. Not going to Greece this year because we went to Lefkas last year and hated it so we thought we would give Majorca a try. Like Majorca but cant usually get my hubby to go. We are renting a villa with some friends and are really looking forward to it :tup.
