Help
Have booked to go to Club Aqua, Tingaki next week. I am terrified. I have read so many bad reports.
Has anyone returned from there within the past few days?
Can anyone give me the real low down - please?????
We have paid quite a lot for our holiday and if it is that bad I want to try and get out of it.
Please help
Just returned from a week there and although we had a good holiday the hotel was not a highlight of it, but equally not so bad that it ruined the complete week. The supposed theft from peoples rooms was a very big worry though. The food became boring even though the salad choice was really good, main courses were the let down, nothing you could really get tucked into so found ourselves eating out and then realised how bad the hotel food really was. Queues were ok for the first couple of days but then we became swamped with large queues seemingly all the time, this was a big downer as well. One of the main problems of the hotel, in my mind, was its location, great for a quiet time but useless for anything else... its about two miles to Tingaki centre and you cant really walk it in that heat, there is nothing else nearer to the hotel. The beach is poor, yes it is right on the hotel but really does appear to be a mixture of soil (?) and sand, in essence, man made and poorly at that.
I dont really want to put you off cos a holiday is what you make of it, but be aware of these points, do not expect 4* luxury, lower your expectations of the hotel to just somewhere to sleep, relax(ish), have just ok food (but not terrible, just not as good as it should be) and you should have a good holiday like we did.
Next time do your homework before you book your holiday... we didnt, but we didnt let KABC stop us from enjoying our hard earnt holiday... we got by. But we will not return to this hotel again.
Geez-Thanks for your comments-I feel slightly more reassured now. All im after is a week by the pool with a good book-Im not intending to do anything else. Aren't us Brits meant to be the most patient when it comes to queues?
ps not been to Greece ever-how hot to do think it will be end of August ?
temperature has gone over 40c several times in the last week, expect 30-35c end august... cab to tingaki 9 euros, cab to kos town 9 euros, I got cab from airport for 22 euros but dropped hire car off there when coming back... dont forget, RENT THAT ROOM SAFE !!
just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks holiday on kos. weather was in the mid to late 30's. we changed before the whole thing hit the telly thank god! Bumped into a family of five that had been brought over to kardamena from kos aqua beach club for the water sports and we all happened to be on the same boat doing paracending, anyway had a good chat and they said beach wasn't ready and could be a bit rough, that was confirmed by our english boat driver, they said restaurants wern't finished and were lots of other things. We went on a cruise along that side of the island, and after getting the binocholors out, could see that it was a good few miles either side from anything, and that some things didn't seem complete. Anyone thinking of going to kos and can't decide where to go, we can't recomend the Aegean village in kardamena highly enough. We have four children 16, 14, 12 and 9, there was plenty to do, not too lively not too quiet, if you wanted good night life it's there, right on the beach and veiws to die for, We're all absolutely gutted to be home, but made loads of realy good friends and fully intend going back soon. p.s it was also good to meet up with a few people who had been originally going to kefalonia aqua beach club and kos aqua beach club at our hotel, after all the months of worry we were all able to sit and smile and count our blessings!
I don't know where this impression came from and as far as I am aware First Choice have entirely distanced themselves from the Aqua Beach Club concept.
If they do have any further involvement with KABC it surely won't be in 2007, as bookings for next year are being taken now and there is no sign of any Aqua Beach Clubs being availble via the FC website.
As far as it is known FC are in dispute with the developer and had claimed that they were going to take them to court, I would be surprised if anything happens until this is resolved in some way.
As far as I know FC have walked away from it now and will probably leave their part built subsiding resort in place in Kefalonia as some kind of modern day ruin. Of course as they never built the thing themselves FC can walk away and pretend it was nothing to do with them, I am sure the people of Kefalonia will stare in awe at the monsterousity for many years to come.
As somebody who often holidays in Corfu close to the site of the proposed (But never built) Corfu Aqua Beach Club I am only glad that they ran into legal difficulties before wrecking our coastline in a similar way.
Still only one restaurant open but we did not queue once -The food was varied but the same each day and by the end of the week I was fed up of it and was longing for a curry ! The pancakes are a must though !!The dining room staff are very attentive and clear tables promptly.
There were often queues at the main bar and the staff here were not as gracious as they may have been!! I noticed that their "tip jar" remained empty. Staff at the pool bar though were fab.Was disappointed that the all inclusive ends at 11pm as often you may have only just finished eating at nine. You really get hammered for drinks then. One word of warning-my teenage daughter sent her 11 yr old brother to the bar and he was served an alcoholic drink which is very worrying.
I would agree with others about the maintenance hatches being left open by the themed pool.Fortunately my children are big enough to notice them but they still posed a hazard nonetheless. Staff were evidently working on improving the poolside/beach areas and there was work in progress to address the drainage problems.
Entertainment was disappointing and definately needs improvement unless your under 8 .A pack of playing cards is a must to beat the boredom !
Watersports activities became available on site at the end of our week-you have to try the parascending-it was fab and 30euro well spent. Bike hire is excellent value at 5 euro a day-the hotel do you a packed lunch if you ask the day before.
checkout time is at 12MD but late requests are available at a incremental charge40-80 euro up to midnight. We didnt take this option as we found that you could use a courtesy apartment free of charge
oh and the volano nisyrus erupted on our last night-awesome !
Having been one of the First Choice customers who was cancelled the night before our holiday on the 1st July I have been reading with interest your reviews. All I can say is that I think we had a really lucky escape!! We changed our holiday to Summer Palace Kos and not once did we receive our drinks in plastic cups and neither did we have to queue for them. We also had a wine waiter at lunch and dinner sittings. From the little I saw of the KAB whilst we were in Kos it reminded me by its layout of a prison camp by the way the accomodation was laid out. The beach, if that is what you can call it, resembled a building site. To any of you who can truly say your stay there was enjoyable I must take my hat off to you and think you must have a lot of patience and understanding to be able to put up with most of the comments I have read about. This sounds like one of the poorest AI I have ever heard about.
We have booked a holiday to the Oceania Club Hotel in May next year, but I am a little worried that it may not be very warm, can anyone who has been to Halkadiki in May advise how hot it was. Also any info on the hotel etc would be good, we are going with our 2 year old son. Cheers Karen
The night life fair enough isn't all its cracked up to be...but the bars are great and if you get in with the workers you get a lot of freebees. I've met some really great people and are still in touch with them now, we meet up etc...
The airport was the only annoying thing...we had a 4 hour delay on the return flight...it's very small.
I thought it was a brilliant holiday, proper fun...the beach isn't great but there is lots to do from banana boat to parasailing. Im planning on working out there next year me and my friend are going travelling around all those types of islands and then workin for the season in Kardamena...can't wait!
I would recomend anyone up for a laugh and bubbly to go...but i will warn you, if you enjoy it as much as me you wont want to leave!
At the airport on our return it was busy but we could actually find a seat.
It seems to be happening everywhere.Benidorm first week in August was quieter than previous years, confirmed by taxi drivers we talked to.
