Marcuschap, all the places you've mentioned look like the types of places we'd be looking to stay at and seem to get decent write ups so thanks for the recommendations.
Lindos Lass, I've been DIY to Portugal before, and much prefer it to booking a package, but hadn't considered it this time cos I wasn't aware you could get cheap flights to Greece as you can Spain, Portugal etc. I was under the impression I'd get a better (cheaper) deal booking through a tour operator. Is this not necessarily the case?
Worth a look though
I don't really know what the tour operators now charge for a holiday to Lindos. All I know is that over the past couple of years more and more rooms within the village were coming up as available for rental direct with the owners. As a worker this was great, I was able to move this year to a nicer room for about the same money I paid the previous 2 years fro a much smaller place. I admit that as workers we got a better deal because it was long term but generally prices were coming down. When my boyfriend came out in August he paid 191 pounds for a return flight from Manchester. I'm guessing that his room would have been around 30-40 euros per night, should he have needed one But with so many available it's a good idea to haggle a little with the owners. After all a smaller rental income is better than none for the owners.
I'm sure you'll love Lindos, the village rooms can be an aquired taste however, but for me they are all part of the charm.
We booked through Thomsons website and a tip I'd give for anyone doing the same is to build your own holiday rather than book it as a package. It saved us over £200 and we've got taxi transfers to and from the resort rather than coach transfers which were included in the package price.
Having only ever been to Rhodes once before on a lads holiday to Faliraki a good few years ago, where I saw nothing other than the beach and the inside of numerous bars, I don't know much about the island, places to visit etc so no doubt I'll be asking more questions closer to our departure.
Cheers, Steve
I've got plenty of information from other threads already but if anyone has any specific suggestions of places not to be missed it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve
Ambrosia, opposite Giorgos Bar. Quite expensive for Lindos but definitely worth treating yourself at least once.
Med East, a little out of the centre, it's on the left as you're walking down the hill to Lindos Square from Romanza.
Broccolino, cosy Italian opposite Rainbird Bar (en route route to the small/Pallas beach)
Odyssia, nice courtyard with a lemon tree but make sure you go with a hearty appetite (portions are huge!)
Symposio, opposite Red Rose Bar.
There is plenty to see on the island if you're hiring a car but if you're relying on pubic transport don't miss a trip to Rhodes Town. The medieval Old Town alone has enough to keep you occupied for a few hours!
