sue we are going from belfast on tues 15th to sharm , so far its all quiet in sharm so thats a good sign aint it .
hope you have a great time and loads of sunshine
thanks, it just a relaxing break we are goin for nothin special really hope yours goes well to
Yes I'm stll looking forward to our trip over Easter . Fingers crossed the troubles do not spread to sharm .
Begining to wonder though if hotel groups might start consolidating/merging people and putting them in a limited number of hotels ?
What do other folk think ? It isn't sound business sense to keep loads of hotels open at 20% capacity and am wondering if Hilton will put everyone in one Hilton, Marriott in one Marriott, Three Corners in one etc etc
Or maybe they will just shut their road side hotels and keep the beach side ones open?
If the Russians and Italians stay away it will be pretty empty. staff will probably be laid off.

Has that happened chris ??
I must admit we don't seem to be getting much feedback from those returning and it would be nice to hear things from the horses mouth so to speak. I've been reluctant to look at TA as I have a feeling a lot (not all) of it will be rumour & scarmongering & panic.

Hadnt thought about that , but arn't most of those run as franchaise operations .
some one from glassgow put a post in from egypt this morning who returned back last night you might want to read it.
sorry its in the three corners hotel section of web page
If you are feeling jittery, whatever you do don't look at TA it's a mess as they don't merge so the posts are all over the shop. I tried it the other day but not bothered since. But it does seems that when hotels have two or three in a group they are putting people in one (common sense really), but that might have been Makardi Bay which is probably different to Sharm.
At least you wont have to fight for a sunlounger
I wasn't really sure what the hotel set up is there, if they are franchises I suppose they operate as isolated units, although maybe with somewhere like the HSB they will decide to put folk all in one side and shut the other ?
I think the hotels that have mainly Brit tourists might manage to keep going as isolated units, but I dont see how the others can if say they are 50% Russian an no Russians are there ? It's just not good business sense.
Thanks Tammie I will have a look at the thread.

Nope I'm refusing to look at TA Chris .Well for the time being anyway . I did check the other day re situation on our EJ flights . There is, or at least was a message saying those with flights booked to Egypt (didnt specify where ) had the option of changing or cancelling whereby they would give you a credit note/voucher for future booking or words to tht effect.
So hopefully my money is at least safe .
I'm sure it will be fine Lyn. Easyjet are still flyng there at the moment. I've just posted on Jimmy's thread too, it's good to hear from someone who has just come back, as we dont go for a couple of months maybe the other Country's FO's will change their advice anyway, so the impact on the hotels will the minimal.
If you look on TA "One thread for all updates" there are some reassuring reports from members there now and are posting each day from the resort, including 2 of the DEs
It sounds great albeit quiet. No rush for sunbeds and plenty of food and snorkelling allowed near to the shore.
I just wish I could find a good deal for March There must be some around with some people cancelling.
I have found some good deals for Tunisia on Portlands website, but prefer Egypt in March for the better weather.
can somebody tell me what TA is please
Caro
....I don't think its 'independent' like holidaytruths
You are indeed correct Caro, TA is owned by the largest online travel company in the world unlike here on HT which is 100% independent.
thank you caro
This time next week should be somewhere over the Italian alps winging it over to Egypt
Realise we may have a problem with sunbeds - how does a middle-aged menopausal woman make the decision where to sit when there are so many to chose from
Caro
caro what part are you going to? and were you flying from, hubbie and me goin from belfast tue15 feb to sharm

I think that would stress me out more than lack of them Caro. I remember one year , cant even remember where but I'd got up early as usual and there was so much choice I sat and dithered for what seemed like hours. First the towels went down on 5 beds , then I sat and thought No actually that spot over there looks better , moved them all again and then I ended up somewhere else .
I'm actually starting to look forward to my holiday again now . We can all breath again for the moment .
