We booked our daughter and son in law tickets on BA to Florida for their first wedding anniversary using our air miles. They were booked through from Ireland and what with various delays/problems there was no entertainment on the BA from Heathrow to Miami, and the worst thing was their luggage didn't make the connection so they didn't receive their luggage until 4 days into their holiday. They only got it then by staying up till 2.00 a.m. in the morning to accept it I am upset for them because we wanted this to be a really special holiday for them.
I know that the above is irrelevant when asking for help or compensation from an airline, but does anyone know if their rights are compromised because they are on a "free" ticket. Can they (or should I, as the "buyer " of the ticket) claim for the lack of luggage?. I only found out today when I rang to say happy anniversary, and they didn't want to make a fuss. Is it too late for them now to make a fuss? Should I lodge a complaint on their behalf?
Most policies seem to provide for a claim against the purchase of essentials when luggage is misplaced and delayed.
Thanks for the reply Traveller, they only have medical insurance (I think!) We just "bought" them the tickets using BA AirMiles. I have only had one short phone call from them where they mentioned the luggage delay, so I don't have all the details and don't want to go off "halfcocked" to BA, so thought I would ask on here first!!

I do not believe the fact that they traveller on a discounted ticket would have any restrictions on a claim against the late arrival of the bags.
The only "compensation" is however likely to be the settlement of any out of pocket expenses for the time their luggage was misplaced (e.g toothbrush/toothpaste, new underwear, T-shirt etc). They will need receipts for anything they paid out for. An airline won't pay out for a shopping spree at Macy's!
There is some information on the BA web site about lost luggage which may help your family make a claim against the cost of any essential purchases. The link is I do not believe the fact that they traveller on a discounted ticket would have any restrictions on a claim against the late arrival of the bags.

Thanks Traveller, I think I shall have to wait till they come home, as they may already have a tracker number etc. I know they did fill in some forms, and that they had to buy a new outfit each, and have the receipts. It was the discounted ticket bit that was worrying me mainly. When my husbands luggage was delayed he was allowed 35GBP per day for incidentals, but he was on a "real" ticket!
