Luckily, we both like the same things, that is lying by the pool, & as you say just getting up for a dip or a drink. There was a time when hubby didn't fancy going abroad, but we do it every year at least twice, three times.....as much as we can now
We do have a wander now & again, but most of the time is spent relaxing by the pool. Heaven to us.
Deb.
Can't think of anything more boring than lying around the pool, after about an hour I need to get moving, my husband hates it even more than me but even so we don't like doing the same thing. He is into extreme sports (mountain and rock climbing, ski touring etc) and I like sightseeing, visiting museums etc. and going to different destinations. I don't mind a bit of hiking but not the extreme stuff. We compromise though by having a couple of short holidays each year when we go to somewhere like Spain,Italy or France and do some walking and sightseeing then once each year I take off on a solo long haul trip year for three or four weeks and he heads for the Alps. It must work as we've been together for over forty years.
Me and the missus like both so we have one simple rule. If we're hungover from the night before we'll stay round the pool or on the beach all day and do nothing. If we feel good we'll do a bit of sightseeing, hire a car or quad, catch the bus to a neighbouring resort etc. Works for us.
We have the odd day out again now and then, but now we just tend to have a wander round the resort
(and maybe call in on a few friends :cheers) and / or lounge round the pool.
we do a bit of both but my husband can't stand lying round the pool for too long, he normally sits for about an hour if that then gets up for a swim or a drink, but our kids would spend all day in the pool, so we normally satisfy everyone and do what we all want to do, we like going on trips and exploring places so we all end up happy
Hubby hates lying by the pool. He manages it for about an hour then starts getting fidgety. He like the sight seeing stuff but he's also more sporty than me and so will go horseriding, paragliding, waterskiing etc. So we have a rule that when he's had enough of the pool he can go off and do one of those things. I am happy to be by myself reading my book and swimming till he gets back.
He went abroad every year and we went camping or caravanning. I never went abroad until I got married.
We both love to lie in the sun and totally relax. He would lie all day though, in any heat, where as after a while, I will get bored and over heated.
I like to go and see the sights and some of the country I'm visiting. We will always do some trips and maybe hire a quad bike or moped. Although the last time we hired a quad bike it broke down in the middle of nowhere, that's for a different thread though.
This year we're going with my sister and her family and we have some horse riding planned (girls only), a trip to the old town and lots of snorkelling.
Only 18 days to wait until we do it.

last year in gran canaria there was a couple and all the did was lie round the pool ALLLLLLL day every day, when they werent round the pool they were laid on the beach, the kids looked thoroughly bored but but THEY were a lovley mahogony colour .. on the bus to the airport to go home my kids were talking about the water park camel ride the speed boats we went on and the couples kids turned to my son and said 'where were they at?' all they'd done for a week is been in the pool, they had seen nothng and been nowhere but the beach, pool, and pub!
when i go with the other half, we just laze around for the first week and get to know the area where we are staying, she goes whale watching ect.... but i stay on dry land, then the last weekend we are there we hire a car for around 3 days and make good use of it to see the full island where we are, some very good mountain roads (tenerife)
Top up the tan for 2 or 3 hours then have a walk somewhere, get a drink, look in a couple of shops, then back to the hotel for another hour or so round the pool.
In 3 weeks and 5 days will be doing all of the above, cant wait.
Bit of both ... we both love walking around the local areas, then having a relax by the pool later on (avoiding the scorchio sun!)
Other than that we both enjoy sight-seeing, getting around by bike, shore-wandering and virtually never disagree on what we want to do. And he doesn't mind a bit of shopping. The only thing he will not do is horseriding. Or so he thinks...I'll get him to ride one day.
My eldest son and my husband don't like to sit in the sun (hubby can't anyway) but they likes to lie in the shade,
relaxing and reading (or *people watching* behind their sun glasses! )
We have a few dips in the pool to cool off whereas our youngest doesn't get out of the water
except to be fed and watered!
try to lie by the pool..get bored after about 10 minutes!!
lie by the pool, and go on trips also and have a wander around the resort, off in the morning to costa brava
Have a lovely time Trasjohno!
When we go on our hols we have two kids in tow so its a 4way choice we love the beach but the kids love the pool and i love sight seeing, so its a case of one day for everyone we all have a choice so if the kids want the pool then that day its the pool, next day its somebody else has a choice and so on but we always go as a family never on our own, we go out together and come back together
so I went on my own) but other that that, we do the same as you Chris.
My husband and I love spending our time together as a family, and luckily enough, even though
our boys are young men now, so do they.
