Hi Suzzy - Have a look at the reports on the 'Hotel Reviews' if you haven't already done so. This should give you a clearer picture. Night time entertainment is limited to socialising mainly, no disco at hotel but they advertise one nearby which I think they may run a bus to, as ad says to 'meet in reception at 11.30' Or you can get a cab into Naama Bay for more night life. (about 20 mins drive)

The first part of the sea nearest the beach is more of a shallow lagoon. At the end of the jetty is the main part of the coral reef, which shelves away suddenly from waist deep to 25 meters deep, so be careful! Its the most amazing experience, fantastic fish, and snorkelling at this hotel is a definite must, despite the walk!

Hope you enjoy the hotel as much as we did :D

Just returned from another holiday at the Grand Azur, It is improving all the time, there is no disco at the Hotel, but there is one in the sister hotel in Namma bay (is that how you spell that) a short free bus trip, or what should be a cheap Taxi fare, start the bartering at less than half of what they first quote, it should be no more than 60LE one way ( be wary of the "sir you gave me a 25 piesta note when you should have given me a 5LE note", trick). The pier is being re-newed and should be finished by mid Sept. although its only a quick detour in the sea, around the bit thats being constructed. You wouldn't wade out to the swimming area, which gets to thigh deep, if you did you would be to knackered to swim with the fish. There is no swimming in the deep part for most of the day as it is too dangerous to get across the coral, if not impossible, it's not really necessary to swim in the deep, as to the left of the end of the pier, in the light blue colour water, and depicted by a rock sticking up there is an abundence of every type of fish you want to see, good for kids, and non swimmers with buoyancy aids. Tipping is a waist if time in reception they are painfully slow tipped or not. Tipping around the pools ensures good service, and in the restaraunts. we gave 10 or 20 LE, to each, per day. If you want cheaper trips than the reps offer, go to the cycle path by the beach turn right and walk for 10 minutes to Gammal safari and water sports, you will come to his quad bikes, his private quad bike trip is excellent, not for beginners, tell him you dont want a ride for Women, trips to Cairo using the same planes and guides, are a lot cheaper

hi everyone we have just got back from a 2 week stay at the lti and we would go back tomorrow in a flash it is the best holiday we have had and our kids enjoyed it 4yrs and 18 months please ignore bthe negative comments they couldnt be further from the truth i was very apprehensive before i went. pound for pound you get your monies worth i just don t know what people expect complaining no chips burgers etc well stay at home or go to spain they do their best for all nationalities and there are pizzas chips etc at the snack bars. staff are overwoked and underpaid but have always a smile Ahmed is in charge at the pool bar and is a fantastic bloke. our 18 month old has a sleep around 3ish so they ensured our room was cleaned between 10 an 2 which was a big help to us if you are taking small kids purchase the swim shoes from next etc before you go as the pool can rub their feet not cuts etc,my advice is we took a small amount of egyptian and the rest in dollars 100 in one dollar bills that came in useful for tips I would honestly recommend this hotel to anyone I know people expect different things from their holiday but I feel that comments about it not been a 5 star and the food is un fair you obviously are not going to get the comparison with 5 star in the uk but then you havent paid 5 star prices as for the food i get stressed if throwing a dinner party for 5 people ensuring tat everyone likes the food never mind catering for at least 6 nationalities and 1000 people plus a day I will be putting a hotel review on now any questions folks please ask away we also never got a poorly tummy!!!!! :D

Thanks sullivan
you answers and advice have made me feel loads better, just one more thing if thats ok?
have read that men have to wear proper swimming trunks in the pools and not shorts, is that the case?

cant wait to get there now, just wishing the time away till monday
Reply
@Drakee, thats funny - you can wear shorts in the pool no problem, we walked round the grounds of the hotel last year and most men wore shorts, russians wore very tight trunks.

Now a question please for anybody who knows:

What english speaking TV channels are there in the room?

Thanks

To jj and drakeee,

The only place men have to wear below the knee shorts or trousers is of an evening at all restaurants on the complex, english speaking channels euro sport , cartoon network , movie channel(dont get excited bit like our TCM) and all bbc world news, CNN, and a dodgy channel that shows diagnosis murder etc buy hey you will be too busy to watch TV!!!

Enjoy I can honestly say its the best hotel I have stayed in all depends on what you want out of your holiday any other questions do not hesitate to askxxxx :D

Hi all, we got back two days ago and I can say that I COMPLETLY AGREE with everything Sullivan has said..........
We had the holiday of a lifetime and wish we had never had to leave......
We spent most of our time at the Dolphin Pool (family) and it made our holiday......
We also did two trips, one to Cairo and one to Ras Mohammed by boat so any questions about hotel or trips, feel free to ask........

Hi

Got a letter in the post this morning saying that the hotel was starting work on some rooms and a section of the resturant.

Has any one recived a similiar letter...?

I don't think its a massive cause for concern just wondering if any one who had just returned had seen what the work was and how much distruption it caused?

Thanks

hi suzzy,

while we were there they started work on the ground floor of the main restaurant. I think it's due to reopen on the 16th sept.....
There wasn't any work going on in the rooms while we were there, that we saw, apart from a bit of painting going on in block 3 where we stayed....

hope that helps....

If so any secret cures i've yet to discover?

Hi Imgreen.......Yes there are some bad reviews out there but the best advice I can give you is a holiday is what you make of it so if you go with the right attitude you will be fine. In regard to chips and pizza......no you will not find all of this sort of food. It is available at lunch time (pizza made to order as you wait) but on a couple of occasions we ordered chips and got brought 3 plates of crisps! Chips are Not available at any other meal time though. They serve alot of rice, pasta and salad with various meat options so you should be able to find something for your son. We have three children and we were really worried about the food but our kids ate really well the whole two weeks we were there.......
In regards to "delly belly" yes our children did get it (only for a couple of days though, on & off and they are older than your son) but they were no where near on their death beds as some people make out. We definately think it was due to the heat and NOT the food so you may need to be prepared in regards to your son. There is a very good chemist opposite the hotel so if you go and tell him that your child is ill he can give you a suitable product. But as most people will tell you, and im sure you already know, the more shade and water he gets, the better........
Hope that all helps you, any more questions feel free to ask.......
Happy hols xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi, forgot to mention juices.........

they provide diluted, not fresh, orange and pineapple juice and something red which is NOT blackcurrant......I think its a local drink....it seemed quite popular with the russians......also there is all the regular stuff, water, 7up and coke and the ice IS made from bottled water not tap!
Hope that all helps too xxxxxxxx
