How do you apply your foundation? I've used the tips of my fingers for years but when my youngest sis saw me applying it a while back she tutted and said I should use a make-up sponge to get a better even coverage. I gave it a go but couldn't get on with it so I'm back using my fingers. Trouble with the sponge was that it either went on too thick and didn't look natural or when I dampened the sponge first, it was too thin and didn't look as though I had any on
I've never used a primer so maybe that would help with the sponge application? You may have seen my question about primers in the other thread but I'll ask again in here- Do they work to help keep your foundation in place when your face is sweating in foreign climes?
Thanks
I don't wear foundation in the summer, during the winter I was using Loreal infallible which has a brush applicator,I still ended up using my fingers to blend it in better ,though.
I use my fingers, always have done. Like you I tried a sponge and the result was uneven. I do use a primer now though, not every day but when I'm going out socially. I find the primer helps keep the foundation in place longer and also seems to reduce the size of pores. I wasn't sure about trying a primer but I'm glad I did. I got the L'Oreal one it's in a little pot but you only need a very small amount.
The Boots No 7 primer is also very good
Im an ex make up artist, start by applying your foundation by dotting over your face, take a good make up brush ie blusher brush and sweep the foundation lightly over the face this will give a sheer but nice coverage, or a sponge a good sponge to buy and is a godsend is one by Kanebo..or get to mac, and buy one of there make up brushes they are amazing I use them..well worth the money,
I use a foundation brush. For years I used my fingers, but when I paid a little more for my last foundation the lady on the make-up counter showed me how to apply it with a brush, and it does have better coverage.
I always used to use my fingers then tried a sponge, but couldn't get on with it. I've been using a brush for a few years now and wouldn't be without it. I find it gets in all the nooks & crannies.
I'd be worried that a lot of the make up would stay on the brush and waste. I also don't see how a brush can sweep it on evenly
The brush needs to be slightly damp Shirley, and no it doesn't retain the foundation.
I've had a look at a couple of make-up brushes on line and they say they are for applying powder or pigment foundation. I use a cream/liquid foundation- Will I need a different type of brush please?
Hi Shirley have a look at Avon they do a foundation brush and they were on offer last week when I last ordered. Can also recommend their primer it does help your foundation stay put when it's hot.
Yes Shirley - I bought mine in Boots

I have an Avon brochure here and have seen the brush, I might give it a go. Is the Avon one called Magix face perfector. There's one advertised that says it's a light gel powder, gives a flawless matte finish for up to 10 hours brightens and softens skin, smoothing over pores and fine lines. It doesn't actually call itself a primer but is that the one do you think?
Yes it's the magicx. They often have it on offer think I paid around £8 for my last tube
I bought the GOSH primer this morning in Superdrug- £13.99
I use a primer it keeps keep your foundation on and give you a better even finish, I also use a bare minerals foundations again I find it a better finish and you don't tend to sweat out of it, whereas liquid foundation you can if you are prone to 'hotness'. In the summer I used a tinted primer which gives me a smooth finish without the bother of applying full foundation.

I was with Helen and got one too- if you bought 2 Gosh products you got a nail varnish free and helen was kind enough to let me keep it. I chose a nice glittery purple one
I also got a make up brush and I'm all set to try them out
