I've read this on another couple of forums too - it does happen, and not just in Marmaris. Maybe its because of the open advertising on the leaflets that expats in Marmaris especially are up in arms? Who could blame them?

For all that so many Turkish people are friendly, would do anything for their guests etc, there is also a roaring trade going on in Turkish resort workers pursuing European women and expecting cash, gifts, visas etc in return.

iam in favour of people telling others of the cons some people are trying on people it is a shame that with the decline in tourist in the last couple of years in marmaris/icmeler region, this comes to light. the best thing to do is when anybody finds out where this is going on ie: bars/resturants/people. pass the information to others on this forum so they do not use these places or get conned by the people doing this
and everyone who is visiting turkey because like most love the country
are aware of this low life

jcarey2536, Excellent post. We have to remember that Marmaris is a City. In the cities in this country we have Escort Agencies. We know that Marmaris/Icmeler is an expensive region, even through our own contacts and looking at property here. These leaflets will only serve to take tourism AWAY from here. Okay, there are some lonely English women that go to Turkey, purely for the attention the waiters give them and so it won't affect them. It is when you get couples and families going into restaurants and the lady gets some extra subtle attention that will put people off. It is a shame that SOME Turkish people have stooped to this low level. There are a lot of HT Members go to Marmaris/Icmeler, if they stop going then these resorts will become Ghost Towns. On a personal note, we love Icmeler and its people and would happily emigrate there if we could afford it but alas the prices for property are so high, compared to other areas of Turkey.

What the Turkish people have to remember is that most UK folk go to places/restaurants on recommendation of others, hence HT and so once the names of these establishments get out, then it will be up to us tourists to give them a wide berth.

This situation is not just applicable to Marmaris, Bodrum etc but to all Turkish Resorts.Also, it applys to all European women.I know,I live here and see it every week.Most of the women know exactly what they are doing and take the cost into account when they book the holiday.Before I get trampled to death by outraged ladies, I would say that the same applies the Men going to Thailand.

Well as far as I can see that article is merely putting in to print what we've all known for ages. The situation was explained to me years ago by a hotel manager. "Imagine that for years you cant get any of your favourite food. Then you get a job where it's not just available but offered to you on a plate". Wise words indeed.

bloody hell........... i live here an missed the leaflet! the picture is from the "no hassle" campaign so a bit misleading. As for the service, it's been going on for years. And the only credit card they want is VISA!
