Hi,
I went to Margarita last September staying at the Laguna Mar.
We met quite a few people from the Dunes who were all very positive about the food and the hotel itself. The only thing they did mention is that wasn't very much to do nearby.
Didn't get any first hand opinions of the LTI, but it looks great in the brochure :-)
Overall, I think the Dunes gets the better rating out of the 2.
It's very cheap out there so you can always choose to eat out without spending too much money.
I had a fantastic holiday and am planning on going back there at some point in the not too distant future!
Rach.
I stayed at Costa Caribe in November 2003 and had an absolutely brilliant time. I wouldn't hesitate returning here tomorrow!!
We stayed at the Barcello Dunes a couple of years ago and I tell you it was fantastic, the best holiday I've had. The food was excellent with a fabulous choice, you would never go hungry as their was so much to offer and choose from, if you fancy Italian you can go once a week and that again was excellent (my husband is Italian and he was more than happy with the food there). The staff were excellent, the rooms were cleaned properly everyday with fresh towels and bed linen each day. The beach is wonderful, the only thing being is that the sea has a very strong current, at least when we were there and it was a shame as I would of loved to have gone in the sea further than my ankles. The pool and the area around was spotless each day.
Great place, I couldn't fault it in anyway and I would only recommend you to try for yourself.
In the evenings there was always dancing and entertainment around the pool area and during the day plenty of activities for all ages around the pool and beach areas.
hope this is of help to you.

Booked the Dunes for next MAY ( party of 8, 6 males 2 females) so thanks PaulaS.
What is Magarita like, its a relitvly new destination.
I've been at the beginning of May and the weather was lovely. We didn't have any rain. It wasn't too busy either.
I went in November 2003 and stayed at the LTI Costa Caribe. It was one of the best holidays I've ever had and wouldn't hesitate returning tomorrow.

Hi Sue, just replied to your PM.
It was the weather that concerned me, but looking at the climate and if May was ok then im sure Easter wont be bad.

I stayed there in November 2003 and had a fantastic holiday. If you want any specifics pm me.
Have been searching for any information on the Island and in particular the LTI hotel. I had originally booked 2 weeks in the Dom Rep but faced with all the red tape to get an 11 year old in and out of the country I decided to change the holiday. We are travelling in mid July (hope it doesn't rain for the whole fortnight) I have booked 2 rooms one for the grandaughters and 1 for us but I read on some reports that the rooms are very small If anyone out there has been to Margarita especially in July I would appreciate any info
Hi ya Linda, i too have booked for mid july at the LTI costa caribe, there isn,t that much info on the resort but what there is, is good! i travel on the 21st for two weeks, booked through First choice. when are you travelling?www.margaritaislandguide.com check out this web site if you havn't already, its great! lots of phots of the hotel and info! hope you find it useful, monkeyx
Just logged on tonight and saw your mail. Thanks for the tip on the Margarita Island web site Yes I have checked it out and found it very informative. What a coincidence we too are booked to fly out on Thursday 21st July. We have decided to get the National Express coach down to Gatwick as it is easier than driving and finding car parking and the coach drops you right outside the North Terminal where I believe First Choice depart from. Incidentally I believe we will be on one of their 'new style' planes and we have upgraded to Star Class which they told me I had got at a bargain price Will be in touch if I can find out anything else.
Linda
xx
if i find any other info i will also let you know! cheers Monkeyxxxxxx
p.s. where are you from?
Hi i am staying at the Dunes beach resort in April has anyone been there would appreciate any info. Thanks
Ohhhhhhhh look forward to your review then...i have been looking at holidays today and i thought about Magarita not bit scared of diverting from my usual destination of Dom Rep.
We stayed at the Dunes Hotel a couple of years ago and we would rate it as excellent, the hotel and rooms were spotlessly cleaned everyday, sheets were changed several times during our 2 week stay and each day the cleaner would make a beautiful shape with the bedspread....a couple of time they made a swan, the towels were changed daily and clean pool towels are supplied daily
.
The food was excellent with a very wide choice, you will not go hungry, if anything you will be going home a size bigger than you went. The staff are very friendly, although they didn't speak much english we did have a good laugh with them. The swimming pool is fantastic, its huge and its cleaned daily and also the area's around the pool. The beach is beautiful with its white sand, the sea is a little rough with a very strong current...well it was when we were there. We would walk each morning from one end of the beach to the other collecting seashells and paddleing as we walked....All in all a fantastic holiday.
I hope this info is of help to you and if you would like more specific info, then you can PM me and I will help with what I know.
Paula
