Hi Whisk. The information I have is that the Portimao market is the 1st Monday of the month and also there is one in Alvor on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Maybe another HT member could verify this. Hope this helps. Cheers Jayjan
Correct as far as I know - the Alvor market is along the road past the Hotel Dom Joao II between Torralta and almost to the Alvor roundabout; the Portimao market is close to the city centre; it was a scene of unbridled traffic chaos last time I went past on a bus so I wouldn't advise driving over there!
I will double check; I have mislaid a useful page of information I found on the web that listed all the markets and their dates etc.

Have a look at http://www.algarve-portal.com/en/shopping/markets it is stating that Portimao has 2 lots of markets one the gypsy & the other I assume is the normal market. It isn't showing the market at Alvor though. Cheers Jayjan
I found my missing information and it checks out - Portimao 1st Monday of the month and Alvor 2nd Tuesday.
When I saw the Portimao market it was actually a Saturday so that must be the 'normal' market as distinct to the 'gypsy/tourist' market in which case the latter might be in a different place. However, various web searches bring up the Saturday outdoor gypsy market but not the Monday one.
Confused I am.

Hi Curbsur, The website above on my post says that the gypsy market in Portimao is in the exhibition area (Parque de feiras e exposicoes) the 1st & 3rd Sunday of every month and the weekly market is in the exhibition area (Caldeira do Moinho). the 1st Monday of the month. Sounds a bit confusing though as it also says that Albufeira Gypsy market is on the 3rd Saturday of the month and the weekly market is the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month. (Situated at the Rua de escolas near the municipal canteen) I didnt know they had a Saturday market at Albufeira. Could it be the Car Boot which is on the Saturday? as I have never been able to find this car boot market, confused even more now. Cheers Jayjan
I've never heard of a Saturday market here in Albufeira (I live here).
The Albufeira outdoor market is on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays but it is off the Estrada Vale das Pedras next to the main bus station. The daily local indoor market is the one in the Rua do Mercado adjacent to the main GNR station, just off the Estrada Vale das Pedras a few hundred metres south of the bus terminal and close to the secondary school and Rua das Escolas.

Hi
We have been to Alvor for the last 4 years and prior to this year, the market was always held as stated, on the road outside of the Dom Joa.
However when we went in January this year they had moved it further down the road next to the sports complex and football stadium.
The market in Alvor is basically the same one that travels around the Algarve.
