Intersted in any replies, will keep an eye on this thread as I have been to Marmaris and it was a bit commercial for me. Am booked for Hisaronu end of Sept and seems to be much more my kind of place.
Will let you know though
ive been to both and personally wouldnt stay in hisaronu , i like it for shopping ,restaurants etc to visit but too many english bars, etc for my liking, i much prefer olu deniz. again i like marmaris away from the main busy area around the old town and out of season otherwise its too busy for me, i like nice pretty resorts and not ones geared up for the brits advertising breakfasts for a £1 etc these make me cringe !!! sorry , but olu deniz is beautiful , good job we dont all like the same places lol
Hi Chazy, If you don't have walking difficulties then I would recommend Kalkan over Hisaronu. We stayed at Hotel Nur back in May(see Hotel Review) and had a fabulous fortnight. If you should choose Hisaronu then I recommend you stay at St. Nicholas Park Hotel & Apartments(see Hotel Review), you can get there through Kosmar, First Choice and Thomas Cook. Like was said above, Marmaris is very commercialised. Having said that, have you thought about Icmeler ?? Marmaris is there if you should need a commercial fix. If you've got family, then I suggest you look at Babadan Apartments. Use the search facility and you will bring up the discussion. Good luck. Les.
Thanks for the replies Ellie, I was thinking of olu deniz as another choice, If I tell you what I would like to do maybe you could help me myself and my sis {both in our 40's } love Marmaris but this time fancy a change, we like to shop, we don't drink Alcohol so we are normaly the first up in the morning and first in at night we both like doing trips ect we just want a less manic holiday this time, somewhere fairly peaceful but with things to do if we want, don't mind getting on a bus or getting a taxi Any help would be great
well olu deniz sounds perfect you are a similar age to me, olu deniz is so pretty scenery is gorgeous, the lagoon is lovely, there are a few shops, bars ,restaurants there and if you want more then pop on the dolmus and go to hisaronu 5 mins away and about 50p ,theres boat trips that leave from olu deniz and other trips to go to, i think you will love it there i do, hisaronu is nice for shopping or the weekly market but its too busy for me, have a look on the reviews of hotels in olu, there are some basic bb to 4 -5 star all inc, the karbel is a basic bb but has great reviews or if you fancy an all inc the belcekiz beach has a thread running and again has excellent reviews
Chazy, St. Nicholas Park Hotel & Apartments in Hisaronu are for you and sis. Fethiye is only a Dolmus ride away for your retail therapy and has a superb weekly market on Tuesdays. A good jeweller in Hisaronu is Pinara Gold, in the Parade of shops near the Mosque. Like you and your sister, we are one of the first up and usually first to bed though we do drink a little but not to excess.
Been to hisaronu last year and came to the same place twice this year cannot recommend it enough for your first time there. My second home
I am now spoilt for choice I think I will have a look at some Apartment reviews and try and decide what to do
Cruisecontroller, I have visited Icmeler many times I do like it but wanted somewhere a little further away from Marmaris, I have read a lot about the St. Nicholas Park Hotel & Apartments, all very good reports, wonder if I can get them cheap in Sept
ellie_meg, can you reccomend any self catering apartments in olu deniz?
alybaba, did you do self catering, I prefare to eat out and try all the different places to eat
thanks again

Next year I am doing a twin center holiday to Marmaris for 2 weeks and then on to hisaronu for 1 week, I would have liked to go to olu deniz but could not get a self catering appartment only B+B's available and therefore my 13 year old did not classify as a free child. So we have settled for hisaronu which looks really nice. So I will be abe to compare the both places next year. Can you advise me on any trips in the hisaronu area and what is the best part of the beach to go to. Thanks
Hiya Just come back from Hisaronu deffo Marmaris the best. Hisaronu is to quiet and layed back
perrydog we seem to be answering each others questions lol, i personally liked the suara beach area of the lagoon, nice area, sea is calm and like a bath and sandy, they provide free collection and return from you hotel too
I tried the Karbel, it's fully booked for the dated I need, can you suggest any others please?

Sorry to butt in...... I love Olu, I can recommend the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel, or the Belzicki (spelt wrong, I know, but similar) Beach Hotel, or the Oyster Residence as great places in Olu.
Olu Deniz Resort Hotel, AI, JMC do the best prices, but nearly all firms do this place.
Belzicki Beach Hotel, AI, Portland do the best prices, but I think ordinary Thomsons do it too.
Oyster Residence, b&b, Soverigen only.
These 3 are all central & beach front. Don't worry about the AI bit, the prices are so good you won't mind wanting to eat or drink out for a change and so central its easy. However, thats not to say that the quality of the food will want to make you eat out as it's really good. But I like a change.
The White Dolphin Restaurant on a cliff over looking Olu is a must do meal.
HTHs
Kim
PS as far as I know there is no SC in Olu, but some in Hisaronu. Maybe there is some independant, but none with the usual operators.
I will do some more research in the morning I only found one Kabel bit then I only looked for one on the Thomsons site, will look again, thank you very much No doubt I will be back with more questions

Wherever you choose happy holidays
sometimes its cheaper to do it yourself, check those hotel sites i gave you 2 of them package it for you anyway, and then do a check of some airlines , 1 of the members on here does transfers and then compare that to the package price you have been offered
goldtrail do cheap flight only
a1travel
this company do cheap flights and packages ive used them and they are good

The pool is the biggest and best in the area - at the foot of mt bagabad. We saw wild tortoises there.
It's just up the road from Hisaronu -much quieter and you can bus into fetthiye or Olu Deniz for next to nothing.
If you want a turkish bath the manager will ring the green anatolia hotel to come and fetch you.
To be honest it's idyllic! Trips are run from Hisaronu -we liked Explora.
I am still looking through all the sites ect you have given me there are some bargains about, the only problem is they tend to be from airports that I cannot get to I am going to try and cut my list down to a couple then wait a week or so, see if prices fall some more
Sue, what is band B? please
Ellie, those sites are great, haven't seen them before, I normally get my good deals from First Choice but those look even better I looked at Goldtrail but all 3 airports I put in didn't come up
thanks again all
