Well I've sent for one today. We'll see what it's like when it comes back but being only 5' 3, I think it's going to be too long-couldn't find a petite one I liked in my price range :(

A highwaisted empire line (like most of those in the shops at the moment can actually be quite 'lengthening' - especially if worn with heels or wedge sandals. And one without too much width in the skirt and/or made in a really soft material that drapes well and doesn't stick out, can also do wonders for the proportions.

I agree with that, as mine sort of drapes nicely and doesn't have an excess of material. Cazz - perhaps if you tried one in a stretchier material rather than cotton, you might get away with your boobs. I'm a size 14 in a dress but I'm sure that he top of mine would easily sretch to a bigger size than me. It also has the wider strap, so I can wear a bra wit straps under it comfortably if I want.

(and you can go commando - yay!).

and here's me been wondering about the best type of underwear to wear under it :rofl

I think both Helens and Angies dresses are lovely.

I am quite tall so I can carry Maxi dresses off with flats but I currently only have one, a light denim one I bought last year so I am on the look out for another (probably print of some kind) I agree that if they are too gathered (with lots of material) they are deffo not as flattering. Even though I am fairly slim and tall (still have my issues with my bum and thighs!) some will make you look as though you are 9mnths pregnant! Get the right dress and it will cover a multitude of problems such as I have just mentioned!

Roll on pay day so I can start shopping for one.

Just out of interest all the girls in Liverpool wear them!

Bought one in Wallis when there was a 20% offer and its gorgeous but I am 5'7 and its really long on me so unless you're small enough for the petite range it could be a problem unless you fancy sweeping the street! Really love the range in Wallis by the way and not just the maxi dresses.

strange as Helen is only just 5 foot and it just skims the floor with a small heel. It must depend on the style :que

I have quite a few, I have always loved long dresses and I have even made a couple. Most of mine are empire line.

Shirley you wont be too hot in Turkey in a maxi dress as long as it is in a light fabric. When I lived in Turkey I wore my long dresses all the time and they actually felt quite cool and floaty round my legs.

This is mine - I love it!!! I felt a bit weird in it at first, having never wore one but it was soooo comfy and I felt quite glam!! LOL

Helen T - That is a lovely dress.
I bought one last year for a wedding and wore it with sandals and then wore it to the school prom.
Hoping to get another 2 for holidays this year.
I am 5ft 3.

Hi
I'm so tiny even petite ranges are toooo long. I'm only 4'10". size 6/8 and take size 1 shoes. I could probably buy an ordinary length dress and wear it as a maxi :rofl
I gave up a long time ago looking for dressy shoes that haven't got a heel the same height as the shoe is long. The only trousers I can buy that don't need shortening are M & S petite short length.
If I had a fairy godmother I would wish - to be at least 2 inches taller, have a least size 3 feet and not have the problem of shortening most things I buy.

Sunaddict, Matalan had some lovely maxi's in the childrens range, up to age 16 if I remember correctly. Why don't you try one of those? They had some lovely patterns - not at all childish.
