Hi Peter,

We flew with Monarch last August to Sanford from Gatwick. The Plane was cramped to say the least. Im 6ft and struggled to get comfortable.

Food was edible and the staff were friendly enough although the earphones that we "purchased" were collected in when we landed for some reason.

Personally, we wouildnt fly Monarch again, which is why we are going on a Virgin flight this year. Dont let it put you off, it was safe.

Hope this helps

How cheeky is that makeing you pay for headphone, then takeing them off you. I would of refused to give them back, not that I'm tight fisted it's just a matter of principal. I've never known an airline rent you headphones.

It is very cheeky of them asking for headphones back after you've 'purchased' them and not 'leased / hired' them. I always take my own, but if I had purchased some for use on the flight, I'd be keeping hold of them for the return journey. Some airlines ask for them back after use if you don't want to keep them, maybe that's what they meant? I would be surprised if it was mandatory.

They announce quite clearly that you can rent earphones, why do you make them out to be villians, they are in business, if you don't like it don't use them

Nobody is making out they are villians, it's just unusual they they collect the headphones in afterwards. We have to distinguish between charter and scheduled flights here. It's normal that headphones are purchased on charter flights, not leased. Premium passengers have 'complimentary use of upgraded headsets'.

I bow to your superior knowledge Dazbo, On a recent scheduled flight to Tenerife I am sure that when the IFE programme was announced it was stated that you could hire earphones therfore I would expect to return them. I really replied to Natsdady who although six foot tall did'nt take advantage of the legroom sets available, moaned about handing back the headphones and was supported by Salford-Steve, generally slagging off Monarch. All the answers to a lot of the questions that you are asked including legroom and seating arrangements are on their website if one is booking flights would it not be a good idea to enqire of those that you are intending to travel with or complain to.

Can I just point out I was not slagging off monarch. I have not flown with them for many years so can't comment on their service, I am just saying that it's cheeky considering every other airline I have flown with sell you headphones and dont ask for them back.

Some people are so tetchy.

Have regularly used Monarch for our trips to Goa as they fit in with our connecting flights . Always book Premier when available. Have had some good experiences and some not so good, I have come to the conclusion that it depends on the staff on board at the time!! Some quite good flights - some abysmal (MON 2490 24/01/09 gets 1 star out of 10) You know who you are !
Legroom, entertainment etc, isn't much better than some other charters. However, recently they had an aircraft change which meant there was no Premium on the return sector but, they managed to keep whatever empty seats they had with the (should be ) premier passengers......good idea, and well done for making it work in Goa!!

Thanks very much for the reply.
I wasnt slagging them off at all. They announced that we could, and i quote "purchase headphones" and not rent.
Also i suppose i could have paid more for extra legroom, but on an 8 hour flight and having paid enough already, why should i.

As i said, the service itself was fine on the aircraft, but personally i wouldnt fly with them again.

We had a delay on the inbound flight which resulted in an airline and aircraft change. The meals were still frozen 4 hrs into the flight itself, which was an old DC10 operated by Omniair international.

Am i wrong, but surely everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Maybe for THIS reason:
Im 6ft and struggled to get comfortable.

Just a thought. :think

Prettypollycat,

Many thanks for your reply. Please dont shout, theres really no need.
It would appear that some people have nothing better to do with their time. My opinion is just that....mine.

Ive come across more people that wont fly with Monarch again, than those that will.

Hi,

Any idea what a/c type will be operating the MON7208/7209 LGW-DLM on Saturday 20th June 2009 (9.10 dep from LGW)?

I'm guessing A300, but wanted to check.

Many thanks,
Mark

mavml,

I would expect your flights, LGW-DLM-LGW (MON7208/9) to be operated by an Airbus A300B4-605R as you thought.

I wasn't shouting, THIS is shouting.

I was just making an observation on your statement that you'd rather spend an 8 hour flight where you
struggled to get comfortable
than paying for extra legroom seats.

That of course is your perogative - but it's not Monarch's fault that you're tall, now is it?

When the cabin crew requested return of the headphones that you'd 'purchased', what did they say when you said you'd purchased them, not leased them as per their announcement?
I assume you did challenge them on this.

Hi all,

Any idea what aircraft will be operating ZB970 on Sat 29th August? BHX-AGP departing BHX at 07:00?

The seat plan online shows 3-3 seating, with a section of extended leg room seats, so I'm guessing possibly a 757-200

Nealry!! It'll be an Airbus A321-200.

Thanks Darren,

Interestingly Seat Guru shows all the seats at the front to be Standard Economy, yet Monarch are selling the first six rows at 34" pitch. :que

Suppose I'll just have to wait & see!

Cheers,

Ron

moonraker,

Those seats are Monarch Plus. There was talk of doing away with them at the end of last summer, not sure if they did through.

They have taken my money for a couple of them, but that proves NOTHING with airlines!
