We also used currencies direct and our money went through the same day, I did tell them what rate I was looking for and they did eventually get it for me.

We have sterling accounts at Banca March here in Tenerife and their London branch. You can put money in through any Bank of Scotland. Transfers between the two accounts are free, and the bank here gives you a better exchange rate between your sterling and euros accounts. Check it out it could save you a fortune.
