It's gone up then slightly as we were only getting 75-76 in Jan. I used the Nationwide who gave us 77.6. It was useful as they also gave me a £1000 overdraft which I gratefully accepted and used;)

fantastic, that is exactly what i wanted to hear.
was it possible to use the card (with signature or pin number or whatever) to pay for things?

Im not too sure, because i paid for everything in cash, and just used the atm.
You might be able to in major shops, but i wouldnt think you would find many.
I also had trouble at Goa airport duty free. It wouldnt accept my card, so i had to pay with cash.
MyTravel airways didnt take my card when i tried buying drinks and sweets in the air, i think they said its because they need a phone line to process my card, but they take visa.

thats what i thought
still 77rupees to the pound its been that for over a week now
IMHO...I've never been to Goa but this is the easiest way for me to work out the exchange rate when buying goods...
10 Ruppees = about 13p
100 Ruppees = about £1.30
1000 Ruppees = about £13
I think of the Ruppees being pennies and basically divide by 100 and add a third.

Spinner I must remember that ....

Hello!!!
Off to Goa (Candolim) for the 1st time on Monday (booked over a year ago so can't wait
)
and wonder, how easy is it to use your bank card over there? Is there a tendency for the cash points to go down?? We are taking Travellers cheques for the majority of the spending money, but as we both get paid when we are over there we will be wanting to take cash out of our current accounts. Mine is with Halifax, but am hoping to do a standing order to my Nationwide account if the charges are huge, and hubbie is with Lloyds Tsb, who I think take a few percent charges out each time the card is used abroad.
Please share your tips

Just back from 10weeks in Candolim, used Nationwide card for all our spending monies, no problems at all, looking at the rate we got it was better than the rates offered there for either cash or travellers cheques (only slightly better but still) for the last couple of years this is all we have used apart from a little cash in case of emergencies )
lashman is the rate in and around 77rupees to the pound out there in goa now ..please
Yes it was as high as 80 when we arrived at the beginning of December but dropped to between 76.20 and 77.40 for cash, most of what shows on our Nationwide statement is over 77.00, hope this helps
