First make sure that your travel insurance covers you for riding one.
then again, i might be wrong and someone might correct me!!!
as i read the Cyprus press every day and see the accident reports my first thoughts are do you have a death wish.... over 60% of deaths & serious injuries on the Cypriot roads are to those on 2 wheels, mainly off islanders,, if i were you hire a small car or use the busses and live to enjoy your holiday
Enough said Wiz thank you. I will stick with a car.....
When i was out there in July, a young lad of 17 was killed on a moped when a taxi pulled out of a side road in front of him.
Contrary to popular belief (and practice) it is actually illegal to ride without a helmet in Cyprus.
hi Ade longtime no speak hows you and yours
why go to the trouble of hiring a moped when you can buy one complete with pole for 2 euros in any supermarket? if you rinse it properly after after use you should be able to mop thousands of floors with same 'ed.

In built up areas the police will often stop riders without a helmet but unlikely to stop anyone on a hired moped. However, the hirer should supply you with helmets and you should be informed you must wear them.
Off the main roads, you may find road surfaces can be a bit dodgy full of holes and bumps especially if there has been any new property builds recently nearby. In the bright sunlight and wearing sunglasses, it's not so easy to see the uneven road surfaces till the last minute.
If you slow down if a car looks like it may pull out on you and you have right of way, you will find this will def happen as the car driver thinks you've slowed to allow him right of way!
The only place I would suggest anyone had any thought of hiring a scooter/moped would be in hotels or apartments that are off the beaten track. 2 I can think of off-hand would be the RCI timeshare at Erimi Gardens (Aphrodite Club apartments) and the Episkopiana Hotel in Episkopi (both in Limassol).
Anywhere on the seafront and main tourist areas - it's really not safe anymore as the drivers are all in a hurry to get somewhere faster than you. I used to be a "biker" girl a while ago and it's honestly not something I would recommend in any of the tourist resorts now.
Plus you will find you will not be covered by your holiday insurance if you have an accident.

Thank you for the information, Im definitely going to stick to a car.
