Yes of course you will need a driving license, Ibiza isn't a third world country. You will also require medical insurance as your chances of ending up in hospital within hours of taking posession of your moped are inversly proportional to Gordon Brown's chances of winning at the next general election.

Ibiza is not a safe place to ride around on two wheels. If you want to see the island which is not only admirable but for the majority of our summer visitors unusual, please hire a car. That way you will at least be in one piece to tell the folks back home what a great time you had. :)

Have to agree about the insurance. I doubt that the holiday insurance you have taken out will cover your medical expenses if you come a cropper.

i agree your insurance will class it as extreme sports most likely riding mopeds over there, thats the only island ive ever been to where it scares me to drive, its not the locals, its the nutters on holiday,

Knowing Ibiza though you may just find a place that will hire mopeds with no questions asked, it can be that sort of place.

be carefull where ever you rent from, me and my friend had an experience in which we were made to pay for scratches and scrapes which were already on the scooter when we rented it it. The owner of the shop showed us a clearly old picture of the bike in which it was scratchless, he then insisted we pay 50euros or the police would be getting involved, we paid to avoid trouble but i have posted this on here to let people know what can happen.

so your best bet then.is to take a few pictures yourself of the bike.

matchstickman.which area did you hire your bike from?.

hi woody,

it was a good few years ago now, can't remember the name of the shop but it was on the front quite near the statue of the egg in Sant Antoni, we did'nt let it ruin our holiday but where not happy that we basically got robbed, i would't let this put anyone off though, just examine the bike yourself before leaving the shop to see if there is any scratches or dents, maybe even take a picture yourself before renting to cover your back.

this is a very old trick.used by a few carhire places as well in some parts of spain.mine you in june i saw a few girls hiring a few mopeds out.a few basci lessons they got on the main road in playa den bossa.i watched them get set to go off.two girls were very good.the other. no way could she control the bike.just pulling off and bang.right into a parked car.the front was a right off and the car did not look to good either.hence the owner said no to all of them.i left them to sort out the damage costs.they may be cheap to hire and a good way of getting around.but no way would i hire one.

stick to the car.
