just a couple of quick ones from the wife
phoning home can you buy phone cards if yes from where?
sending postcards are the post boxes in the hotels or out in the resort what colour are they and where do you buy stamps
cheers
happy
I'm not sure about phonecards, but re post boxes, most hotels will have a 'post box'. I've found that this is often a large 'Sidi Bou Said' type birdcage in reception! You can buy stamps in most places that sell postcards and the hotel shop should sell them.

Take an unlocked phone and buy a Tunisian card, 20 dinars will be a good start. Calls to home should cost about 1 TD per min that is far better than roaming costs of £1.35 per min. There are plenty of phone shops that will help you. When you leave you could give the card to a resident with a few dinars of credit on it.

Marhaba Palace has a birdcage post box.We use the public phones close to the marina, very cheap, just pay the man after you have finished your phonecall.
Public post boxes are yellow. Most places that sell postcards will also sell stamps.
Under no circumstances make phone calls from the hotel as they are quite pricey. You can use the public "Taxiphones" which are very cheap but for the past few years I've used a Tunisiana SIM card. The card itself cost 10 dinars (just under £4) and I put 10 dinars on and top up as necessary. You will have to produce a photocopy of your passport so it's easiest to take that out with you. A 10 dinar top-up will preserve your number for 6 months which is useful if you expect to go back again.
one last question
http://www.accuweather.com for a 15 day forecast. For some reason I can't seem to put the link in tonight though I've never had any problems previously, but I'm sure you will manage to find it and it's usually fairly reliable.
It seems to be warming up quite nicely but a cardigan or light jacket is always useful. Have a look at you are a jewel many thanks for all your help
cardie is packed as is my bag and now its just waiting time
me i cant wait roll on
You've still got a week to go Happy, whereas poor little me has got just over a month, and that's only for a weekend for a wedding near Tunis. I have no doubt I'll be back again for a couple of weeks later in the year though. Just be careful you don't pick up the same bug some of us on here did or you'll find yourself returning time and time again, not that we complain of course Have a lovely time both of you and remember to write a report on your hotel when you get back.
will post a report when we return and who knows if the wife thinks of anymore questions i will be back
You are a jammy lad Happy - the weather seems to be warming up nicely and the temperatures for next week are shown as between 22 - 29 deg. I'd hate you to think I'm envious 'cos I'm quite a nice person really, just frozen at present
Just thought I'd let you know that we're off to Tunisia on Monday, me and the wife are back-packing for eight days. We land in Tunis on Monday, as you say the weather is looking excellent. We are heading for Djerba on Tues on the train as far as Gabes, then we'll get a louage to the Isle. Assuming the weather is as good as expected we'll have a couple of nights there then we're off to Douz, Kebili and the like. Hopefully our friends will be pleased enough to see us and they'll offer us a bed for the night.
I am so looking forward to it now, only two sleeps to go, it's been over a year since we were last there.
Kevin
Hi Kevin, Have a wonderful trip and take loads of pictures. I'm sure your friends will be pleased to offer you a bed. I was hoping to go over for the Douz Festival this year but the date hasn't been announced yet and rumour has it that it won't be until around Christmas time, when I like to be in the UK with the family, especially this year as I have a new grandchild due at the end of July. I'll probably be back out for a couple of weeks about October though and I'm off to Tunis for a weekend for a wedding on 16th May so I've got that to look forward to.
