I recently took out a hsbc current account just for holiday money but now I think I should change it to a Nationwide one!
Is it def the current account I need?
Cheers

The Nationwide one I use is a Flexi account.

We've been using our flex account for years abroad and either paying by debit card or using it to withdraw cash from ATMs - it so much easier.
And of course the real bonus is that it is free!!

Pleased to see them currently advertising this on TV - I think they'll get a lot of new business out of it.

We also have an esavings account with them - you can transfer money directly on line form and to your flexaccount. Again - so easy - that what I use to save for our hols, I transfer the money into our flex account to use while we are away and then transfer any surplus back into the esavings account when we come back.

Can only reitterate what has already been said. We moved from the HSBC to the Nationwide specifically for this facility. Used it in Vegas in April and got a really good exchange rate as well as no fees, definitely recommended.

Most of the time when i've got back home and checked my statements i've got a very good exchange rate too

I have used my nationwide flexaccount card to draw money out of ATMs last few holidays. The great thing is not only do you get no charges you also get the actual rate, not tourist rate from the machine.

My wife also has a current account with the A&L so we also get free annual worldwide travel insurance. this has saved us a small fortune over the years.

Hi. I have also always been with Nationwide and have a Flexaccount. It is just like a normal Bank Account, were you can have your wages etc paid into. Another thing with it is they also pay interest on balances once a year just like a savings account. When we go on holiday we just take 100 euros to cover us for immediate use and then use our card in the cash machines for the rest of holiday which saves having to carry large amounts of cash with us or in a safe. It also has a visa sign on it as well which means it can be use in the restaurants and supermarkets that accept cards as well as I think about every bank. Karen

I opened one on Monday, it was very easy and didn't take long whereas my curent account with HSBC took ages as they were trying to get me to have their credit cards/ house insurance/ life insurance/ etc, they even asked me my hobbies and favorite football team!!! (hsbc not Nationwide)

Just back from Halkidiki today  , and the rate I was getting from the cash machine in Pefkohohori was 1.49 Euros to the pound (310 Euros cost £208). No fees etc either way :D

Can't recommend this account highly enough, WELL DONE Nationwide.

It's daft not to,

chivas69 silly question here. will i need to open the account by putting some money into it.i,ve been with TSB for the last 20 years so not sure how it works these days.i am applying by post hence the question :D

no you can open it with a zero balance!

Chivas69, would much prefer to get back to 1.65 ish (good old days), but 1.49 is a lot better than the exchanges in the resort 1.39 + 1.40 best (almost 7%) and on 32 boxes of ciggies (me and mrs), gives a saving of over £37    , can't be bad.

I still can't understand why people go abroad without a Nationwide card   , they should be made compulsory !!!

Robby

Hi, just thought I'd let you know, the Nationwide Visa Card also charges no fees when you travel abrouad, but they like you to let them know that you are going away to help reduce credit card fraud.
