Just received this reply from the Insight Paper. Not awfully helpful but it's a starting point.

We think that she performs in the Nerja Club Hotel (on the N340 on the way to Maro) on Fridays. I know that she performs in the Punta Lara Bar in the summer, usually on Sundays, but I don't know if she sings there in the winter.

I think you will find that the name paella comes from the old Catalan word for the pan in which it is cooked....

Weve been to Nerja twice before, once in May and once in October when the Fiesta was on (not a good experience seeing as we were staying 100yds past the fiesta). Have enjoyed it both times and Ayos paella is to die for - do they still do it in Jan? We are vising again at the end of Jan and Im so grateful for all the information re entertainment and trips etc, we thought it would be a ghost town. Thanks everyone, Im really looking forward to it now.

Hi
Not sure if I'm allowed to do this...might get deleted and I apologise to the mods if I do anything wrong.....

I'm Sparkle and if you read back the postings to do with Nerja you will see I have been around for a couple of years on here....well, we now live in Nerja and run a cafe bar called Pie Inn The Sky which is situated on Antonio Millon. You will get a warm welcome here and we specialise in home made baking with pies and mash, soups, cakes and fantastic all day breakfasts!

We love Nerja and after holidaying here for a few years decided to take the plunge and move here....after all you only live once! It is quiet at the moment here, but by no means is the town shut! There are plenty bars and restaurants open and lots with live music to suit all tastes. There is a great atmosphere here and although Nerja is quiet compared to other costal resorts it is a beautiful place to visit.

If I can help with any info just shout!

Hi Annie
while you are waiting for a reply have a look here for some info we have in the forum from earlier.

The weather should still be very warm.

There are many different restaurants in Nerja so you shouldn't have any problems finding Spanish ones. Look for places offering Tapas and menu del dia as these tend to be Spanish.

I live outside of Nerja and rarely travel into Nerja to eat so can't recommend anywhere specific.

If you want to be able to walk into town, look for accommodation near the beaches, as it will be quieter than the town centre. The centre can be very busy with Motos and late night revellers.

Areas such as Punta Lara/Tropicana, Capistrano and Burriana are all very nice but may be a little further out than you want.

Are you looking for hotel accommodation or self catering?

We are looking for either b&b or self catering with air con & in walking distance of most ameneties. Any ideas?

I would try some of the listing sites. Holiday lettings and rent in spain are both good ones for self catering.
If you then post the names of any areas you are interested in, I'll happily look them up on a map of Nerja for you.

Hi Annie

September will still be nice and warm, even hot. I live in Nerja and was still walking about in a sun top in October last year. I don't know much about accommodation here but know there are very few self catering places which have air con as we looked for this prior to moving over. Friends of ours who were here this year said it was a compromise between air con and a good sized pool so it will depend what you are looking for.

As for restaurants they are in abundance here, all types, plenty of variety and lots of typical Spanish places to eat.

If you book somewhere on Burriana beach area then there is a steep bank to walk, I find it ok but my other half hates it! The beach there is lovely and there are lots of cafes/bars etc but it is a good walk away from the main town area, though we have a good bus service and plenty taxis, the walk itself would be around 30 minutes.

The Balcon de Europa area is lovely to be during the evening, lots of street artistes and plenty eateries and delicious ice cream!

I don't think you can pick a wrong 'area' to be here as you will enjoy walking around looking at the pretty buildings and houses and I still find something new round every corner.

We run a cafe/bar here as people on this site will know, so if you need any further help just ask and I'll do my best.

I have been to Nerja many times and always use this firm, reliable and friendly.

http://link.toolbot.com/nerjavillarentals.com/19361 ,

Restaurants, I can reccomend Pata Negra (not cheap, but lovely food) also Osteria at the bottom of Calle Rodriguez Acosta. This is run by three young Italians.Again, delicious food.
The Balcon is a great" people watching "place, day and night! Love it!
You must see the caves at Maro! Absolutely mind boggling!
Have a trip to Malaga and Frigiliana .Buses are cheap and reliable.
There is a good market (Tuesdays)and also a car boot (Sundays).
There are also lots of things on at the Cultural Centre in town. The tourist office will usually give you a list of forthcoming events.
Get the "Market Place" magazine (free) as well.It will tell you everything you need to know!
Have a great time!

Haven't been to Nerja for a few years but being your age group just make sure you're not up cadiac hill!! Most of Nerja is either up or down steep hills so the closer to the beach the better. Burriana beach is very pretty with lots of restuarants (often not open in the evenings) but is away from the main town and means a trek up load of steps. I would aim for beach front accommodation if possible but with all the building going on along the beach when we were there you have to be careful you're not out on a limb. Just be very picky about where you stay and if going with an agent establish exacty where you are going to be.

Hi AnnieT,

I normally go to Nerja in September when the weather is ideal in my view; even November was shorts & T-shirt with a sweater at night just in case.
This year I had to go in July/August and the heat was a bit much.

As far as accommodation is concerned El Capistrano to Burriana have many nice apartments "¦"¦"¦ but be prepared for some hills. :- http://www.gg.rhul.ac.uk/Spain/Nerja-map.html

There are several authentic Spanish bars in the back streets, but try La Biznaga near the Balcon or La Marina at Plaza La Marina on Castilla Perez, here they still throw the cigarettes and napkins on the floor in true Spanish style.
A must for Sunday lunch is Ayo's at Burriana. Paella being the main dish, and if you can eat more take your plate up for seconds.
If at Burriana try the Blue Med for daytime snacks and Cafe del Mar where John will show you his excellent evening menu.

Finally if either of you fancy a pint of J*hn Sm*ths go to Bar El Bosque on the Castilla Perez.

OMG how I wish I was back.

Can anyone enlighten me about the lay out of Nerja please.
We have been, but only on a day trip and at the Balcon de Europa we turned right and took a walk along the sea front which was on the level but I read a lot about steep cliffs and Burriana beach. Is the main resort along clifftops there and which hotels are not up a steep hill please. I have got a map but it doesnt help with hills!
