Hey Darkisle, you're flying out on the same day as me and my friend!
Can't wait to get there!!!
Have a great time Kez.
Hi, off to Nerja in a couple of weeks staying at the Perla Marina cant wait, read a few poor reviews about the food, we are on a B & B basis. So if anyone has been there recently and can put my mind at rest that would be great. Also while we are on holiday its my partners birthday and i would like to treat him to a special meal, any recomendations on any great restuarants would be appreciated too, we love eating outside on holiday so any with good views, my partner likes tapas bars there is always so many we never know which ones to choose. Any help would be much appreciated.
Find the "Balcon de Europe" in Nerja and look to the east, literally 100-200 yds and there are 2 lovely small reastaurants that have terraces looking out to sea. Both are great and are easy to find. Walk towards the town on the side of the Paseo that has the statue on it, follow round to the right and the restaurants are on the right. the 1st is immediately before a small shopping mall and the 2nd is just inside on the right.
Thank you, can you tell me the names of the restuarants please. Also if anyone else knows of anymore, tapas bars or good chinese, even english bars that do good food, so we have a selection to choose from. thank you for your help.
Hi, we stayed at the Perla Marina Apartments in June this year and absolutely loved it there. The apartments are next to the hotel. Funnily enough, the best restaurant we ate at during our stay was only a few steps from the Perla Marina and we did try quite a few in the centre of Nerja, near the Balcon etc. I'm really sorry but I can't remember the name of this restaurant (it has a spanish name) but if you stand at the front entrance of the Perla Marina facing the road, turn to your right and walk along the road a few steps. The first restaurant you will see on the opposite side of the road is a chinese restaurant, go past there a few steps further and you will see spanish restaurant that has some of its tables outside along a small alleyway. I can highly recommend this place, the food is authentically spanish, they have a tapas menu and a main menu and the prices are very reasonable too. I think it's a family-run place, which I often find makes all the difference to both the food and the service!
Try Mamma Rosa, Calle Chaparil - was recommended to us and it was so good we went twice. I had duck with chocolate sauce - it was delicious. If I think of anymore I'll let you know. Also the chiringitoes on the beach are great for fish etc. You'll enjoy
Been seriously thinking about giving my job up next year and moving over to spain!
Had great tapas near the balcon, fish and chips at the cod father, big als does a great breakfast, the california for lovely salads! Coach and horses for typical english grub. You'll never go hungry in Nerja!!
Tutti Fruiti on a thursday, Friday saturday and sunday.... wouldn't bother on the other days. I think the bar we went in most was escape... they end up giving you free drinks and shots at the end!!
Cafe del mar and the cocktail place in burriana for drinks. there's a restaurant opposite by the beach.... lovely fish!
Not sure what else to sday other than anyone of any age can have a great time in Nerja!!!
La Biznaga at the Balcon and The Round Bar further up the road were great for tapas, never missed an opportunity to pop in.
Cafe del mar on the Burriana with entertainment from the talking menu, well worth a visit or two or ............................. Booking advisable as there were many turned away.
Our apartment was across the road from Ayo's, so needless to say we had our fill of paella and sangria.
I've put pics
Can't wait for next year.
We usually stay in Benalmadena when visiting Costa del Sol but I fancy Nerja which we have only visited briefly on a coach trip. My husband thinks it is small and will not be much to do there. Are there any music bars? What other places are worth visiting from there. It will be end of January.
We have just been to Benidorm and I know it wont be anything like that! but I would like a change as long as it isnt too quiet.
thanks for any help
Sue
I think its a great place, one of my favourites, but I like it quiet which I imagine it would be in January.
I think it will be dead at the end of January. Its lovely in the summer, but I think you will be really restricted at that time of the year. Not good weather either, historically.
Nerja is one of my partner and myselfs favourite holiday destination. We go either May or September which is lovely. The first time we visited Nerja and fell in love with the place was in January a few years ago. It was quite quiet but bars were still open and a few of them even had entertainment. If you like entertainment in the evenings the bigger hotels tend to have things going on at that time of year. We were very lucky as we had lovely weather too, laying by the pool everyday relaxing. If i were you i would give it a try bet you will love it!
We went to Nerja some years ago and hated the place. Cardiac Hill in Benalmadena has nothing on the one in Nerja. We stayed in the Verano Azul at the top of the hill, the apts. had bars on all the windows and balcony doors, it felt like a prison cell. Nothing to do in Nerja at that time (about 15 yrs ago) maybe it has changed since then. I know we prefer Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola every time. Going to the Torreblanca Hotel next Monday.
I would definately recommend Nerja for your holiday.
I lived there for 2 yrs.
There will still be a few people around end of January, and if you're lucky the weather will be on your side aswell.
There is an excursion I can recommend, and that is a Jeep Tour. Its run by a man called Michael, and it is located on the same street as Cielto Lindo which is the best Mexican restaurant in town. He will either take you pot-holing or on a 'safari trip' to a waterfall which is hidden away.
Failing that, you can always visit the holiday rep in the Hotel Monica and book one of her excursions. They vary from a Diamond Trip, to Gibraltor, to one called Mammas & Tapas...this is great. You travel up tp a spanish village in the hills, where you are invited to a spanish lady's house and she cooks you a 5 course meal, which will be washed down with the local wine. Great!! Failing that, there is a bar called Unplugged, he regularly has live music on, and a comedy night. Down at Burriana Beach, at All That Jazz, they have a Drag Queen on twice a week (It maybe more, I left 1yr ago) which is a good night. I wouldnt recommend Tutti Frutti square, which is full of teenagers. If you want a nice evening out, there is a great spanish bar, which has a great atmosphere, is always busy and serves the best tapas in spain, its The Round Bar. Any local will say the same. If you go, have a great time, the locals are lovely, and stick to spanish bars...cheaper and a lot friendlier.
1) For insurance reasons
2) It dates back to years ago, when a couple were courting and lived at home with their parents. Because it was forbidden for them to visit each others houses and instead of them sneaking out in the middle of the night, they to steal a kiss through the bars.
Also visit Ayos Restaurant on Burriana Beach, the best Paella (which comes from the words Para (for) Ella (her)) ever. Ayo was also one of the young boys who discovered the Nerja Caves.
Went to Nerja in Feb this year.. yes some places were closed but found plenty open weather apart for 1 day was brilliant for the time of year
Sue
I live near Nerja and agree with everything kezauntie says. The only thing the area is lacking at this time of yeat are tourists! The locals still enjoy life and there is plenty of entertainment around. It's a great place to be.
Hi Marina G, just read your forum message, you may be able to tell me if Sandy Lawrence still does a cabaret show around the Nerja area? Planning to go back in the new year absolutely love it there, and like to watch a bit of entertainment in the evenings.
