Judith, I couldn't tell you what rate we got in the end because a friend had returrned from America with lots of dollars left, so we bought them off him. Just know he gave us a good rate because he was saving on commission. Still need to change a bit more before we go though, so shopping around for the best rate.

I can't make my mind up whether to change Euros or pounds into dollars, my OH is in the UK right now so he could change some pounds. I'll have to start checking the rates.

if going to new york for 3 night break how much money do people recommend you take for a couple if staying self catering?????????

It all depends on where you eat, what you drink, if you do a lot of shopping, paid attractions, etc.

What are you planning to do in your 3 days? That will help give a better idea of how much money you will need

I took £500 for 3 nights and I came back with money. Granetd I didnt do much shopping as I didnt find it much cheaper than back in the UK, but I bought 2 tops, two bottles of aftershave, some cosmetics for my mum and souvineers, plus from that money I bought food, evening meals, drinks etc. I came back with about £120. Excusions such as helicopter flight I paid with using my credit card, but other things such as bus tour, top of the rock, empire state etc I bought with the cash I took.
