Is anybody able to recommend a nice hotel within a two hour drive of essex. Near shops and pubs would be great.

The Ritz is supposed to be nice or the Dorchester - loads of shops and pubs around Oxford Street.
how about going to winchester -lots of pubs and shops there . and i think salisbury also (although not been there yet).
