Good to hear Mike, enjoy this better than Ingo's, but is it still in the same place, seemed to be land ownership problems last season ?

You took the words right out of my mouth!!!

.......and can you get there on the bus!

I think Mackies night market is near the Marinha Dorada but not certain. I wouldn't mind trying Mackies, only ever been to Ingo's so it would be nice to compare the two. Fizz

Mackies Market is next to the Marinha Dourada Hotel in Arpora (opposite MoJo's). Best night market IMO :)

Have been to Mackies quite a few times now - as we very much enjoy Ingo's, the traffic is a right pain and quite often no where to sit and chill out and too much hassle. Mackies on the other hand is small but has all you want for a good night. The acts on show last time went were a Goan rock group, an Indian trance group, a very good act with hoola hoops ! knife and sword juggling and a guy who had his hair tied to 3 motor bikes and stood his ground whilst they revved away. The food stalls are very good with a great choice and the main drinks bar is big and easy to get served. Seating is plentiful and the toilets are spot on and looked after all night.
Not too many market stalls, but again all you want to buy is there. Pick up and drop off in taxis is soooo easy.
Try to get there for 6.30ish for a browse round then food and ale and relax the night away, finished last time at midnight.
Travellingtrina - no buses at that time of night !

Just been told by the taxi lads that Mackies is not opening tomorrow as there are not enough people here to justify opening it. :(

Now that the Baga bridge has reopened it should be easier and cheaper to get a taxi from Calangute than it was a year or so ago. Must admit I wasn't too sure about the food stalls due to the number of flies that were sat on the food items last time we went. I decided not to test them. On the other hand if you get there early there is a food stand aimed primarily at the taxi drivers and is outside the entrance. All the food is freshly fried, placed on a rack and you help yourself. No hand contact other than your own ! The deep fried chillies are wonderful, as are the other things on offer and all very cheap. They shut before 7.00pm though.

Why does that come as no surprise?

Any guesses what next weeks excuse will be?

It is absolutely typical of the attitude of these people to their "honoured guests" as we are so often described. Plenty of tourists have arrived, especially including the Russians, but not enough for the market to make a killing..............so they cant be bothered!
