hi
some time ago i asked when the law came in which bars and restaurants had gone over to no smoking
now after a bit of time i was wondering how the no smoking ban was affecting the different bars and if they even bothered enforcing the law
The only thing we did notice is that in some restaurants smokers have now moved out on to the terraces to smoke (which is permitted in most) so if you are sitting outside on a lovely warm evening, you are now surrounded by the smokers!
It's a bit like Ireland where they all congregate around the doorway outside the pubs!!
Can't win really.
This topic is for information as to what bars allow or do not allow smokers in their premises and will remain open for that purpose but will be locked if it becomes a discussion on whether members should or shouldn't smoke !
The Spanish appears to have banned smoking in large food places but not in the smaller ones.
This will have to be changed because the large places will complain that they are loosing business to the smaller ones.
In Ireland smoking was banned where their are workers. Big or small its all the same. Works great for the 70% of the population who are non smoking,

Billyboy.
If I remember rightly I wrote in that thread that after about a month most bars that fall into the small bar category took up the option of allowing smoking in their bar / restaurant.
Eg most bars and restaurants now allow smoking both in and outside again. Only the large ones, that can not under law, have remained non smoking inside. I can only speak for the area I live in (PDLA, Puerto Colon, Torviscas, Fanabe and Del Duque).
Can I ask I question without getting into trouble......Can you still smoke in the hotels??
hi.all.. i think i am right in saying that you can smoke if you want to in your bedroom.....some one will correct me if i am wrong... ...regards .johndoe
It seems that this is another grey area (excuse the pun) in as much as you can smoke in the hotel rooom but only on the balcony and others are saying in the room and on the balcony. I think all these problems will iron themselves out in due course and it is just a matter of patience on the part of the holidaymaker.
We stayed at the Barcelo Santiago in Los Gigantes in February and you were only allowed to smoke on the balcony not in the room... when we had a sneaky ciggie in the room when it was raining (it rained a lot that week ) the next day the cleaner left a notice about not smoking in the rooms in a very prominent position where we couldn't miss it!
we stayed at the la siesta in january and they have smoking and non smoking bedrooms ,if you e-mail hotel i,m sure you could express your preference
