Any suggestions for beaches to get away to for 1 or 2 nights. Over the last few years we have done :
Ashvem - Liked this place, good huts and food very quiet and no hassle.
Palolem - Loved it, good huts and food, but reading up now it seems too busy with hawkers.
Cola Beach - The best you can get, but other half hated the bumpy off road trip to get there
Devbahg Island - Excellent for peace and quiet, good huts but hated the food.
So maybe you can see, we like peace and quiet, not too much hassle, good food. We don't want to travel too far if avoidable (but if we have to..) Have read about the Russians being at a lot of northern beaches this year - which ones do we avoid ? and are they taking over down south ?

You could have a look at Agonda beach, lot's of huts from basic to luxury, these had just open'nd in December http://h2oagonda.com there are only 6, all with direct sea views, and the outdoor bathrooms are amazing. Rs 2500 a night in April.
Or how about Benaulim, not as far to travel and a nice mix of people. Really good beach, and shacks, Blue Corner has huts with attached shower and WC. The restaurant does good food http://www.blue-corner-goa.com/
Neither of these places was predominatly Russian .

Agonda has always been on my list but ive never quite made it (so far). Looks beautiful, definitely worth considering I think.
Cheers for that you two. I had a look at Agonda earlier this evening and it seems really decent so will have a look round for reviews of the place, travel times etc.
Spike, a few photos of wonderful Agonda beach.
Thats definitely on my to do list
Hi... can anyone tell me how long it takes to get to Agonda? I have been to Palolem a couple of times and although we liked it there we found it a bit of a trek.
Depends on where you are based; Agonda is about an hours drive from Cavelossim, via the Coast road, which has amazing views over Cabo de Rama, etc. Must admit, Agonda is probably my most favourite place in the South.
that vital piece of information would of helped... sorry. I'm staying in Candolim!

Basic accommodation but the restaurant does fabulous food and is right on the beach. If you're lucky you may get to say Turtles hatching, as we did a couple of years ago. The beach is classed as a preservation area for the Turtles so is quite quiet.
Thanks MadAboutGoa... I will look into that!
colin and i are down south 27th march to 18th april !!!
might see you for a bit of fishing again !!!!

i love patnem
We fly out next week staying in Baga and will be visiting the south but still cant decide where to stay its a toss up between Patnem and Agonda. Looking for a clean basic guest house with hot water. Any recommendations would be grately appreciated.
Dercy's is one of the few hotels there and he knows it and charged 2000RS for a basic room (for 2) with a fan only.... it is very hot in Agonda. The Dunhill resort is grubby but OK, good food.
Otherwise find a guest house.
There are beach huts of varying standards from basic to 'luxury'. I've done that many years ago and it's no longer my thing, prefer a nice clean basic AC room.
Nightlife.... virtually none.
Beach shacks.... none.
Tranquility.... plenty of it.
Or...... Benaulim. Still retains a bit of village charm with enough going on.
Cheers Big Neil, have found this site to browse over, think I may end up tossing a coin as where to go (could be fun..)
Beach shacks.... none.
I take it you mean on Agonda beach, your wrong Neil. There are shacks at the headland before Palolim
