The beach as you can see is right on the doorstep to my hotel but apparently not too safe for little ones as it shelves quite steeply but there is the Lagoon which is great.
Callygirl, you are right, it does shelve steeply, but you and your son would be fine. I have been with my son (7) twice and although the waves on first entry are quite strong and the water does go deep quite quickly, if he is able to swim or use a woggle, you can happily float around just out past where the waves break. We actually prefer the main beach to the lagoon to be honest, its not ideal for small children although they can play on the little sloping bit where the sea comes in, but it is lovely to swim in.
Hence why we need a resort wheres theres nice walks/things to see. Im in a muddle as to if Olu Deniz will be ok for us or if we should think about a bigger resort such as Bodrum or Kusadasi.
kbaby77 ~ I cannot comment on the other resorts as I have only been to Olu, there are plenty of bars and restaurants, where you could eat or drink at a different one every single day, you will however find that you would have favourites and tend to return to. In our recent visit in August for instance, we ate at Captain Hooks 6 times in our fortnight because the food and the service was excellent (as it had been last year too) there are plenty of places to relax and have a drink.
As for things to do, you can wander around the resort, wander along the promenade bit by the beach, watch the paragliders come in, or you can walk (get free bus) down to the lagoon areas for a change if you want a change of scenery (the water there is fine for small children as it is very gentle water, no waves, and not deep, so they can paddle and you can keep an eye on them), but there are definitely plenty of places to eat and the choice is excellent. I know it is personal choice, but I would never select AI as I love the choice of where/what to eat and when.
Olu is a beautiful resort, ideal for families with small children, and if you want to go to a livelier town you can get the dolmus up to Hisaronu to wander around. THere are also plenty of trips available to go on if you want a trip out, also there is the Market in hisaronu on mondays (the same but smaller than the main one in fethiye) but good to wander around.
We went in May last year and it was warm but not overly hot, when we went in August, you didn't feel like venturing off much (although we did).
But plenty of places to eat for lunch/dinner, and, I have to say, for me Olu has been one of the nicest (if not THE nicest) place we have ever been on holiday.
