sorry Mark
Best for me was in Tsilivi. Trouble is I can't remember the name of it. Come to think of it, I can't remember much about it at all!
I wonder if you class Caprihina as a cocktail. Anyone going to Brazil just has to try that But don't make the mistake of drinking more than a couple!
Mojito, in a swanky bar in the Dusit thani hotel Bangkok.
Mojito in Cuba. Sitting in a little run down open air bar in a park watching humming birds.
I enjoyed a few BannanaMammas in the Dom Rep. Full of crushed ice and deliciously refreshing, sipping at the swim-up bar. The rum flavour was quite nice too
Mojito for me too, in the Iberostar Tucan in Mexico. We'd never had one before and it wasn't on the cocktail list- intrigued we asked the Americans what they were drinking. From thereon in we were hooked. Tried to recreate it at home and it didn't work at all
See my problem is I can't just have one, I start working my way through the menu.
I avoid anything that contains creme de menthe though. Alcoholic mouthwash, bleeurh.
I suppose memorable was a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel. I bought a glass to recreate at home. It's still in its box 4 years later.
Anything that contains Vodka in it..
Baileys comet onboard Thomson Celebration
Hubby & I ordered a fishbowl in Santa Ponsa Majorca. The waiter asked how many we were. We said 4, then realised that the kids were only 12 & 14 at the time. They had a couple of sips each and we then proceeded to finish the lot. It was beautiful at the time - not so nice when I nearly fell over the pavement when I got up
Mine was in the bar of our hotel in Limassol during happy hour, all cocktails were 50 pence a go. I asked George the bar manager to make me a cocktail of his choice. He made me the most amazing drink using lots of colours and flavours, couldnt tell you what though! Topped off with a sparkler, fresh fruit and heart shaped straw, all very classy It was delicious. When i asked what it was called he said, beautiful lady Think he just made that last bit up! Nice memory.
Also I'm partial to long island ice teas but I can never managed more than 2 - they are very strong!
I have a tendency to choose long island iced tea because it's got 5 different spirits in it and I like to get my money's worth. The last one I had (which was in this country) was made so well that it did taste like iced tea, even though I saw him put all the spirits in. Yum.
Sex on the beach for me.
Tried to recreate it at home and it didn't work at all
The secret of a good Mojito lies in following the 10 golden rules below to the letter:
1) You always need to use more suger, ideally Golden Demerara, than you expect.
2) Use lots of mint that has been grown outdoors under hot sunshine (those little pots grwon under polytunnels as sold in most UK supermarkets just don't contain enough mint oil in the leaves unless you use loads).
3) Use ripe limes that have actually turned yellow - I always keep mine for a at least a week before using them and keeping by the apples helps ripen them off nicely.
4) Never ever be tempted to cheat by using Rose's lime cordial - if your fresh limes don't have enough 'zing' add a few drops of Jif lime juice if you must.
5) Make sure that you mash the mint into the sugar and lime juice really well to release the full flavour of the mint before you add anything else.
6) Always use Havana Club golden rum and never Bacardi because it just isn't smooth enough.
7) Always use enough rum to give it a kick but never so much that you can taste nothing else.
8 ) Use crushed ice and loads of it, never ice cubes.
9) Remember it's supposed to be long drink and so top it up well with either soda water or fizzy spring water but never lemonade.
10) Sit outdoors in the warm glow of evening after a really hot day - or failing that turnup the heating. Turn the Buena Vista Social Club up high on the stereo and close your eyes and imagine that you're sat in some lovely leafy patio in a back street in Havana or Santiago :-)
And Rule Number 11? Keep practising making them using the 10 rules above :-)
