The point I was making is if other European countries and Turkey were now advising against non essential travel to all of Egypt why is the UK still flying people out?.
He was saying that Americans would most likely only go to Egypt to visit the pyramids & the turkish repatriation would be mainly turkish nationals living in cairo etc. In other words it would be highly unlikely that visitors from those countries would be on the Red Sea. .
Dojo it's up to you what you do about going to Sharm next Sunday. I've made my choice not to go and do agree with Jay's sentiments regarding the fact that other European countries and Turkey were now advising against non essential travel to all of Egypt and yet the UK is still flying people out!
As far as scaremongering all the info I have reported is what I have gleaned from watching the BBC news channel as things have been reported last night and during this morning. I have to say that there does seem to have been some conflicting reports regarding Sharm such as a report saying there were military vehicles in Sharm but a later report refutes this. However, I am still concerned because the whole situation is obviously so volatile. Since Dojo you're not going until next Sunday, unlike us that were to have gone tomorrow, I guess you are in a better position since the FO will have assessed the situation by then and slow as they are to react, would have given the appropriate advice!
Nevertheless Dojo if you go I hope you have a good holiday. We certainly had a great time last year in Sharm, just a pity this has happened,

I believe the tour operators, whilst taking information from the FO ,do not take peoples worries seriously.
Not a decision to take lightly but we were to travel tomorrow and I therefore we had to make up our minds quickly. I'm pleased to say that the decision was unanimous and both my wife and son agreed to cancelling,

dojoman43 wrote:A lot of this it total supposition and to be honest scaremongering, I for one will be travelling next Sunday if the FCO still say it is safe to do so. I could easily say I have heard things on other forums, but as I don`t know if they are true what is the point of posting it?
To be quite honest dojoman, I can't see many posts that have been on HT that are scaremongering, so thats a bit harsh.
The posts put up David and Graham who are well respected mods on here. David puts up Travelmole posts on all forums he sees as relevant and we all apprecate it.
Most of the rest of us are serial visitors whose posts are well considered - this isn't TA you know.
The advice on here will be to wait for FO advice and then to make your own deciosn as to go or not to go - nobody can decide for other people and their families.
I am somewhat worried as I will be in Sharm (I know a long way away) on Friday with my elderly parents and brother.
On the FCO site it says a 1500- 0800 nationwide curfew what does that mean exactly?
Thanks
Jules
As I have said before I had to act quickly because we were supposed to go to Sharm tomorrow. By Friday if things don't improve I would assume (but there's no track record for this) that the FCO will advise you not to go and you can then claim a full refund. Otherwise you will have to consider your personal circumstances and make your own decision as we have, even if you lose the cost of your holiday!
doepsmc,
I agree with what you posted about folks making their own decisions. I'm reading some pretty dire up to date reports on the net now but won't be posting the content!

I thought I ought to update you on you asking for proof that Mubarak has a holiday home in Sharm. Please read the following link

We don't pay our final payment until the 20th Feb, so hopefully by then, things will be a lot clearer. As far as the nationwide curfew is concerned, I hope it's not a daft question, but does this include tourists in hotels?
but does this include tourists in hotels
THat's a bit unclear however I would presume that it does Helen, you will be free to wander around the hotel resort however you won't be able to leave the grounds, as much for your own security as anything else.
That was my interpretation of things as well Kiltman, which would rather spoil a holiday for those who wanted to be out and about.
Egypt flights disrupted as curfew alters
Travel to Egypt was further disrupted at the weekend as one BMI flight heading to Cairo was forced to turn round and return home.
BMI flight BD771 had to return to Heathrow on Saturday after three hours in the air after the Egyptian authorities changed curfew times.
Flight BD722, due to depart Saturday evening, was then cancelled.
All BMI flights between Heathrow and Cairo on Sunday were also cancelled. Passengers were offered the opportunity to rebook.
British Airways has given customers due to travel to Cairo today the chance to cancel or defer travel but it is still operating flights into the Egyptian capital.
Schedules have changed, however, to suit the city's newly-imposed curfews. The airline also laid on a special flight over the weekend to return customers home early.
Holidaymakers who do still want to travel to Cairo, however, will not get to see the country's most famous tourist attraction. The Pyramids at Giza have been closed off by the army.
Most UK tourists travelling to Egypt, however, take their holidays in Red Sea resorts like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, hundreds of miles away from the unrest in the capital. Operators have stressed that travel to these areas is safe.
Most excursions to the capital, however, have been cancelled.
At the weekend, the Foreign Office issued a warning that travellers should desist from all but essential travel to Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria and Suez.

Doepsmc I know this is not Trip Advisor and I have never suggested it was, I may not post as often as some of you but I have been a member since 2004 and frequent the forums most days.
There will be a statement made in the House of Commons at 3.30 today. It will be interesting.
Monarch had 3 flights go out to Luxor today and their are reports of people NOT being able to cancel/change holidays even with the current FCO advice when they are going to those places listed.
They may be scheduled flights that are going out mainly to bring people who are already out there back home, many people would be due to come home at the end of a stay out there and the flights are still required to go and pick them up.
