I usually get my glasses from Romanos in Calangute & Panjim but I tried a place on Holiday Rd in Candolim called Eye Site They do all the eye tests including the puff test for Glaucoma When we went last week they had a special offer on of an eye test, frame and varilux lens for £31 !! I chose a dearer designer frame which pushed the price up to £51!!! cant ask for much more can you Alan

Quality Opticians will offer you a free computerised eye test. Glasses are really good here...think there is a thread with more information on Opticians somewhere here as well as recommendations .

Last time I was in Goa there did not seem to be any 'up to date' designer frames. Can anybody tell me if this is still the case or do they have a good choice now?

Has anyone bought spectacles in Goa and, if so, is the quality as good as here? Do they have the high density plastic lenses? Are the prices much different to here ?
Thanks

They are one of the best buys in Goa, good quality and very cheap, I bought a good quality of lightweight rimless frames vith Varilux lenses for 50 pounds Although the larger opticians do a full eye examination the smaller ones use the computer system only so I always get an eye test in the U.K. and bring the prescription with me They will suply whatever type and style you want and in the 10 years Iv'e been buying specs I.ve always been happy with the result Alan

Gramps, I'm curious where you bought your glasses from. My mother bought some from Mapusa (the cheapest places I found) and she had vaifocals, reactive, carl zeiss lenses and also Titanium (rimless) frames. It think they cost her 14000 Rs/- (£175) does that compare? The Carl Zeiss lenses were 5000 Rs/- cheaper there than another place for same ones.... (also in Mapusa)...

The one both myslef and my mother used is in Mapusa up the hill towards the Courts, just before the crossroads it's on the left small shop (but you need to take a prescription).

Thanks so much for the replies and especially the tip about taking the prescription. May well get some and feed back to the forum on return.

Hi Rob It's hard to compare with what yor Mum got in Mapsa, the frame I, got whilst of good quality , I dont think would compare wih the Titanium frames you mention, also I did'nt specify any particular brand of Varilux lens Your Mum's sound the Rolls Royce end of the market. I got mine in Oct. and I'm back again and wil be getting another pair as I'mveryhappy with the result The optician I'm on about is called Eye Site and he is a qualified optician and does a full examination including the puffer test for Glaucoma Alan

I bought two pairs of single vision specs in a shop near to the elephant shop in Candolim for £60.00. I left it a bit late but they were ready within 24 hours and I was impressed with their professionalism etc.

Eye Site are very good can have test coming off beach and pick up at that shop or the one next to Magnum/Nellie Shop. Paid £66.00 for 2 pairs of readers this year - can't get frames for that here let alone test, frames, lenses!
