There is a good opticians in Calungute by the pharmacy on the main Calungute Road. When ordering ensure you check the lens glass is the thin one as I have been given the cheaper thick one before which made the glasses quite a bit heavier. They carry a very good range of designer frames also

We bought glasses, just be careful which designs you buy. I bought a very cheap pair (about £25), which I dropped within a week of getting home and the lens broke. Also the screws on the rimless ones come loose and you cannot get the screwdrivers in the UK to tighten them up because they are a different metric size. You are best to stick with metal frames.
We usually get ours in Mapusa. There's a couple of shops within the market complex - (on the first couple of rows at the taxi stand side) which are very cheap. The most popular one is Agnelos on Ramchandra Bdg, opp the taxi stand. Prescriptions and eye tests are easy to get and the optician shop can arrange them - cost about 200/250 rups. You can of course, take your UK prescription and they will use that. We got our visas back this morning from London, 9 days from posting. . . . . . Is this a record???

yes MK i agree about the about the rimless I bought a pair about £30 with an eye test, but kept coming apart and they dropped one day and the lens smashed. also they were a lot thicker than i expected. so ask for thin lens and i would avoid the rimless. Saying that when I go back in March im getting them repaired.

I bought a couple of pairs in "Eye Site" in Candolim last season, one of the pairs were rimless and he supplied a little box spanner type gizmo without being asked, so I've had no problems if the slacken off a bit, in tightening them up. Alan

Are contact lenses easily available to buy? I am a new wearer of monthly dispoables ( if I ever hack it!) and thought I may stock up on a few packs whilst I am in Goa. I also wondered if it would be best to have daily disposables whilst on holiday? Are these available? Any idea of cost? thanks Jude
Hi contact lenses are available but be careful what you buy. I had a big row 3 years ago in the Rayban shop in Calungute, I asked for the contact len's you leave in for the whole month and was given some that are supposed to be cleaned every night, found that out after 3 days of continuous wear, and felt as though my eyes were on fire. Break down in communications I think

sorry I didnt read your posting properly, unsure if daily disposables are there because as I stated this was three years ago the lenses given were very cheap and I believe the same brand as I was using at home - just the wrong type!
oh well thank you any way mine are monthly but i have to remove them every night which seems to take ages every mornin getting the blighters back but I suspect if I only did it once a month I would never get used to it! So I probably will stock up on a few supplies thank you

Hoping to get a pair of reading glasses in Goa in March and this may be a stupid question but do the opticians do an eye test for free before purchase. We are staying in Candolim so any recommendations regarding opticians in Candolim or vicinity appreciated. Thanks. Lenny
Dangui will do an eyetest, but you will probably pay it shouldn't be more than 2-300rps.
You can get one done in UK before you go.
I found the opticians in Candolim very expensive, they wanted to charge Specsaver prices. Dangui in Mapsu market were at least 5 times cheaper than those in Candolim.
