Robby,
Please don't joke about a subject that's very close to my credit card.
You could be right, because everyone who has been recently that I have spoken too have not paid any deposit or even hear of such a thing.
Still waiting for a reply to my e-mail asking for more info on the subject, will let you know if I ever hear anything. Who knows you might hear first hand before I get a reply.
Love Jen
Since my last post I've gone through all the reviews on Tripadvisor as well - only one, in June 2004, mentions the dreaded deposit and they say it was 100 euros per person!! I think I'll just take an extra £500 to be on the safe side!!!!
This is turning into a right horror story. I am not taking extra if they want a deposit they can put it on my card.(they will not charge you card at all if no damage) I will do a bit more Sherlock Holmes before I go. Will let you know any update as soon as I hear any more.

I have to say that by far the majority of reports on the hotel are favourable and positive. What I can't understand, however, is that some reviews really slate the hotel for almost everything - noise, food, surly staff etc. - but don't mention the deposit. Now I'd have thought that, if someone was really dis-satisfied with the hotel, the deposit would have been one of their main gripes, so I'm fairly certain, in my own mind, that these people could not have been asked for a deposit, or they'd have certainly mentioned it. Curiouser and curiouser !
Still no reply from my e-mail asking them about the deposit, don't think I am going to get one now.
When you go at Christmas do you get a proper Christmas dinner or is it jsut a Gala dinner?
Love Jen xxx
The Portuguese tend to have their Christmas " feast " on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. The hotel have a Christmas " Gala " dinner on Christmas Eve and have sent me a menu; if you're interested and would like to let me know your e-mail address by personal message, I will gladly send you a copy.
I've managed to locate an English Carol service in Albufeira for my wife - she's looking forward to that; I've managed to do that with the help of "Algarveaddick" here on H.T., for which I'm very grateful.
P.S. It won't surprise you to know that there is an additional charge for the Gala dinner- but no mention yet of any deposit on the crockery.
Thanks for the menu, I did sent an e-mail but my computer crash and I don't know if you received it.
Whats the weather like there in December, can you still go around wearing shorts and t-shirt?.
Love Jen xxx
Yes, you sent a p.m. saying you'd received it.
Weather, hopefully should be mid 60's and, with any luck, dry - mind you, it's been chucking it down there today !
If you go onto the wunderground site, they have a " history & almanac " section in which you can enter any date and check the actual weather for that date in past years.
Thanks Sagres I will check it out
I'm due to go to this hotel on Christmas day and it will be my first time in the Algarve. I was a bit worried about the deposit, so I emailed the hotel using one of the links on their website http://www.paraisodealbufeira.pt/en/index.php. Apparently they only charged this deposit during "Eurocup" (unfortunately I'm at work at the moment and the email is on my computer at home, so I can't paste it here). I will still be taking the extra 100€ though, I'm sure some off license will take it off my hands

make sure you have your Xmas dinner booked before you come out, one of our customers is a rep, and he has loads of arrivals on Xmas day, and is running out of places that will have bookings available on the day to recommend.
Some other ex-pat friends of ours go to your hotel for their Xmas dinner every year and say it is pretty good.
Have a nice time!
Thanks for the info. re the deposit - that's great news.
Algarveaddick - are you talking about the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner, or do the hotel also do a Christmas Dinner on the 25th. as well?
Suitcase packed yet? only a few days left to go are you excited yet!
Hope you have a good time and Santa is good to you.
Waiting with baited breath for your review. My Husband asks what kind of beer /lager do they drink in Portugal.
Cheers Jen xx
Haven't even found the suitcases yet, let alone packed them !! There's still five days to go, so there's no cause for panic yet.
With regard to the lager, the two main Portuguese ones available are Sagres ( believe it or not, my favourite ) and Superbock, although you can also get Cristal and Tagus as well. In the main resorts such as Albufeira, all the English brands are available and I've read somewhere that one of the lagers available on A/I in the Paraiso is Fosters.
I take it you've read linsta's post regarding the deposit situation - that's good news
Will let you have my report on the hotel on my return; have a good Christmas.
Hi Sagres there is another bottled beer called imperial which is quite nice. but not a lot of bars seem to stock it. Enjoy your Christmas trip and also your visit to Floyds bar. We went up last week with roseweb and her hubby and met perry & karen, had a good chinwag & a laugh, enjoyed it. He has a quiznite on Saturdays so he told us so make sure you keep the educated UK folks at the top of the league. Once again enjoy your Christmas and keep taking the Sagres for medicinal purposes only. Cheers Jayjan
Yes, of course, there's Imperial as well; I've also seen it on draught as well, but, as you say, it's not widespread. I'm afraid we won't be putting in an appearance at the quiz night as, by my reckoning. the Saturday will be Christmas Eve and with the bar open from 10.00 a.m. and then the Gala Dinner at the hotel, I'm sure I won't be in any condition to take part in any quiz !! Have a good Christmas.

I read that some of you were due to visit this hotel in the last few months. Please could you post your reviews or give a brief description of your experience. My family and I are going there for a week in April so woudl really apprecaite it. 1 quick question - does anyone know if pool towels are provided ?
This is a query for anyone who has stayed at the Paraiso De Albufeira.
I know the hotel is quite a way from the beach but what I was wondering is if you can see the sea from the hotel.
I know that there may be a number of other hotels blocking the view but some reports I have read say that you can see the sea from the hotel and others say you can't
Cheers
Steve
