I am sure I had a little mooch around them the year I stayed at the Golden Club as thought I might return to cabby sometimes and am a nosey so and so , so had a little wander about. They had an on site shop so I inadvertantly popped in to pick up a paper (and some sweets knowing me).
It was a long time ago though, as a passer by they looked nice. I liked the way it was all low rise and spread out through grassy grounds.
Hopefully someone will have some more up to date info. Tavira is very nice, not a resort as such, more a small Portuguese town of some character.
Their website has a good map:

You will observe from the map that Cabanas has an island offshore. I don't know whether you can cross to the island by ferry or water taxi this time of year. The best beaches are on the islands in my opinion.
Cabanas has no buses on Saturday afternoons, all day Sundays and holidays even in the summer. It is a local route to and from Tavira only.
I have the times at my personal website at http://www.algarvebus.info/029.htm
There is a little railway station at Conceicao with trains every 2 hours or so on the coastal route between Faro, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Times again on my website at http://www.algarvebus.info/006.htm
Conceicao is also on one of the main coastal bus routes same site ../015.htm
There are ferries and water taxis in summer between Tavira and Cabanas which I think stop running on the 30th. Might be an interesting way to travel.
Tavira is a very pleasant place and has a lot of good restaurants etc either side of the river and near the old bridge. You can go up the hill to the old castle and walls and the camera obscura in the old water tower.
Hope that helps a little. Bring a mac by the way as the weather forecast ain't too wonderful.
