Apparently quite a few bars in Icmeler have also been demolished, or partly demolished, especially along the promenade. Seems as if a few of our favourite Turkish holiday destinations are going to be looking a bit different next season!

Hi Tony, well Gumbet market has been completely demolished - it's currently being held on the waste land at the side of where the market used to be. Bodrum Council have put up a massive poster to show what the new market will look like - all covered over and quite futuristic looking!! Hope it's ready for next year.

Mehmet rang us on Saturday night and we were asking him about Gumbet. He said there had been a lot of demolition of the illegal frontages - do you know where Oli's restaurant used to be? It was on the corner on the opposite side of the road from Chinatown (further down the road on the corner where you can walk down to the Magnific) - that of course had been partially demolished last year - well, they've gone down the road towards the Magnific - knocking down those two empty restaurants (I think one of them used to be Mary's?) - only the shacky bits at the front though - the original buildings are still there (you probably won't have noticed them 'cos they were hidden by the illegal builds at the front).

It really does seem to be mainly all the illegal frontages that have been knocked down - leaving the original buildings standing. Everywhere looks completely different in the photos that I've seen. It looks like it's going to be a massive construction project - let's hope they work hard over the winter and get things back into place for next season.

Mehmet's place (Cheers) hasn't been touched - obviously it must have been legal :duh .

The only thing that I'm wondering about is who is actually going to do the rebuilding - I know that a lot of the bars were owned by a large property owner who rented them out. If he pays for rebuilding, then surely the rents will go up - will they still be as affordable or will any increased rents be passed on to tourists? Let's just hope somebody out there does replace the infrastructure of the place and quickly - or else bang goes Gumbet's tourist trade for the next few years.

Hope that doesn't sound too bad - Mehmet didn't seem overly concerned, he was upbeat as usual and just said everything would be okay (ever the optimist is our Mem!!).

Hope I can post some good news later on when the rebuild starts.

JAK xx

The majority of Bar/Restauraunts down by the Canal have been Demolished or partly Demolished, Some still are in the process of being demolished also.
And a considerable amount of the same down by the Beachfront are in the process of being demolished also.

It's not strictly true to say the "majority" of places along the canal have been demolished, rwb. Dreamboys and Bamboo have had their bar areas taken away, but most places along the canal itself are still intact, such as Venice and the Majestic. Along the beachfront, however, Coco Beach, Cafe Anne and the Erdem cafe have gone completely.
The main problem appears to be "outside" bar areas which have been roofed over without permission - several other bars have had these roofed areas taken away.

In Marmaris 877 locations, 693 residences, 148 commercial concerns, 20 gangplanks, 8 fillings, two each stables and purification systems, and one garage, A fish pool, A wall along the coast and construction site were established for demolition.

Most of these properties in Icmeler and Marmaris are illegal because of no permit to build or failure to build according to the code of practice.
4700 Buildings are to be demolished or partly demolished all over Turkey.

Rwb, I don't know what your problem is with my posts, but you seem to feel the need to constantly have a go at me. I was simply trying to clarify the erroneous impression you gave in your earlier post that the majority of bars along the canal had been demolished. I fail to see the relevance of any posts I may have made on another forum, and just for the record, I too have been in communication with my friends in Icmeler to discuss this issue, which is of considerable interest to those of us who visit the resort. Your petty sniping isn't of interest to anyone. I was merely trying to help by clarifying the issue.

I have been the one who has been reporting on Icmeleronline. I am resident in Icmeler and have seen everything with my own eyes. It is not true that the majority of the canal has been destroyed, infact only 2 bars from the canal have. I think you need to make sure that your sources are more accurate, random gossiping does noone any favours. I will be posting photographs at a later date to clear up any confusion

I know to an extend that 150 establishments which are mostly restaurants will either have to downsize their area of use or close completely based on what the Icmeler Mayor have told me.

However, I would like to point out that, ICR Travel t/a icmeleronline's name and its business considerations seem to be spelled out by this rwb and by some other name on various forums including this one for no reason at all as ICR has got no involvement in these demolishments nor does any business with any of these restaurants except maybe frequenting them.

Obvioulsy, this person or two have no idea what they are talking about. We have been around Icmeler since 1987 as a family and Icmeleronline is just another establishment owned, created of a need by its own clients and not one that went out there to make giant business and hide bad things and just promote holidays etc. I am starting to feel that your posts at each and every forum you are a member of are aimed at disgracing the company.

If this continues, HT and all other forums will have to provide your IP address, thus your full name and details to the authorities which will then go into a long battle of court cases and disturbance to you and my self as the owner of the company. But, this will not solve a thing. At the end this is still not going to stop you from practicing your online slagging campaign of Icmeleronline.com as its an online world and you can say whatever, right?
So Obviously you have never done a business or if you did, you would never survive, if you thought you could make money by covering truth by involving your clients in online forum arguments etc which you think we do. People who protect us, just do because of your attitude. Some of them dont even use our services. We do not feel that these developments will burden our business, in fact we feel its is best for our future business. Therefore, your statement is FALSE and by law, you cannot make a statement on behalf of a company. Please do not push me in taking you to court for charges and this would really disturb you on your next entry to Turkey and financially.

You can take this as my last notice.
