Fiona I know what you mean.
I tend to stick to White Wine Spritzer these days
But I am OK with JD, I can drink copious amounts
I used to drink J. Walker years ago, with Ginger.
Can't remember if it was Red or Black label
We seem to be moving further and further off topic here now. Please feel free to use this thread for holiday enquiries about Glasgow or Edinburgh, but perhaps discussion about alcohol and ancestors, etc could be continued via PM or in Chatroom please.
Back on subject can anyone recommend somewhere to have lunch in Edinburgh, near the Castle or NAS area?
Thank You.
K
Deacon Brodies on the Royal Mile. Excellent food at reasonable prices.

Wilson
It looks a lovely old pub, and with some history too.
William sounds a character doesn't he.
It looks like the place mum and I are after for a lunch
Thank you
K
Looks such a lovely pub that Wilson's given you the link to Karen!
I think I can feel a day out in Edinburgh coming on.
Can anyone recommend where we can get a really lovely STEAK, Angus Steak from in Glasgow.
The Ubiquitous chip has a really good reputation for Scottish food, you might like to take a look at the menus here. Aberdeen Angus steak is on there.

There's also http://www.stravaigin.com/
Yes I would agree with Fiona 'the chip' would be a good choice for your steak, and it's not far from your hotel, just off Byres Rd.
What is Red Chard?
Steak and Pepper Sauce Mmmmmmm That's my diner sorted
And Stovies too Mmm, but I might have Stovies up Glencoe in the Green Wellie.
Thank you
K
Although I haven't been in the chip for a meal since November last year, think you should enjoy it. I went with a friend then who's originally from Brooklyn N.Y. and who loved it. (Sorry I can't comment on the steak though,I'm vegetarian.)
Think you'll recognise red chard from here. http://www.britishleafysalads.co.uk/know/leaf-guide.shtml
P.S.Sorry Graham Think we were typing at roughly the same time.
19th June
P.P.S. Graham,nah!...I prefer it that way.

Thanks you F & G
Just to clarify, if we go up stairs to the restaurant, then is the Wee Pub downstairs for a drink.
You wll be spoilt for choice in Ashton lane, try all the pubs

Yes Karen,my favourite area..since it's so local... to go for a drink or two and something to eat
The Wee Pub is around the corner from 'the chip' although obviously it belongs to the same owner.
You've also got their flagship bar upstairs in the restaurant and at street level on the corner, the 'sister' bar.
Hope this helps too.
By the way,in case that's confusing,Ashton Lane is T shaped.
All the pubs do look nice don't they, try them all
Last time I was in Glasgow I was drinking Cola Cube Shots nice but very sweet, SIL bought it for me.
I'll try all the pubs if you and Fiona join us
Fiona,
I don't go to the pubs here in London, but if I lived in Glasgow I would be a regular in Ashton Lane, it looks really nice and inviting, very quaint.
How did I miss it last year
K
After the Steak in the Restaurant Dinner is says (Plus £9.00)
Any idea what this means
Can't wait to have a wee dink in the wee pub
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Wasn't online much yesterday.
The Restaurant menu prices are fixed and you'd be eating your Steak in the "Courtyard". That's the most sought after area to Dine in.
The food is exactly the same quality, items on the menu are individually priced and cheaper for the Steak, at least!! if you were to have "Upstairs Dinner"...not in the Courtyard.
Basically, you'd pay extra for the location!
It is lovely in the Courtyard though, especially for a special occasion.
The Wee Pub is really nice and probably not as studenty as some of the other bars in Ashton Lane.
(My no.1.favourite bar is Bobar at the top of Byres rd,although not what you're looking for, I reckon. It's very contemporary.)
