It depends where you are going. Monastir to Hammamet I would use coach transfer. It's a fair journey depending on time of day, traffic etc. The disadvantage of the coach is how many stops it makes at different hotels en route which can pile up the time taken.
Monastir to Skanes or Sousse I would use a taxi. It's probably cheaper than coach transfers for a family but always check the price before you go with the driver. No hanging around at the airport waiting for coaches to fill up and the Reps making sure everyone's on the right coach! You arrive earlier at the hotel thus avoiding checking in en masse and can be in the pool before other guests leave the coaches.
While in Tunisia, one of the the cheapest ways to get between towns is to use Luage taxis. These are shared cabs with everyone paying for their own seat. Luage stations are to be found in all towns and villages and will pick up and driop off along the way.
Good luck Dorra, Newcastle (a long time friend of Tunisia)
The transfer from Monastir to Hammamet is 1 and a half hours. I find it much easier to get a coach transfer as finding a good taxi price can be difficult. If you do get a taxi make sure you don't pay more than 70td
Well I just can't seem to find any online taxi firms in Tunisia any links or ideas?
there is never a shortage of yellow taxis outside, but make sure it is a yellow taxi and not a white grand taxi)
my advice... go on the coach! it doesnt take that much longer!
Can anyone tell me whether I will be able to get local currency at that time and will there be plenty of taxis about?
Don't know about taxis but there is a cash machine in the airport. When we went a couple of years ago, it was quite late when we arrived so I was able to withdraw cash there.
In the baggage collection hall at Monastir Airport there are several small offices for money exchange. I believe service is 24 hour there. You shouldn't have a problem getting a taxi even at that time of night. If pushed ask the driver to take an English note. He will be able to get it changed.
What about asking your hotel to book you a taxi?
I tried asking the hotel and they quoted me 40 Euros for a private car. I gather the distance is no more than a mile or two!
just wondering if anyone has been on the package holiday with panorama - we are flying to Monastir and then they take us to the hotel in Hammamet (near the centre). We leave UK at around 3-4 p.m. can't remember what time we get there it's roughly about 6-7 p.m. was wondering how long it takes roughly from landing to the hotel - we are on half board and I wonder if I should pack anything just in case we don't get dinner when we get to the hotel.
Thx
Please do not use phone text ie every1 etc thanks Briar
Are you sure its two hours? It was only an hour ahead last week
I tried to ask Panorama about this but they didn't have a clue - it's the 1st time we r doing half board (first time I have any meals included in fact) so getting a bit jittery
Anyone any clues what to expect? Staying at Le Hammamet...I don't even know what times they give for meals hope it's not 6 a.m.
Should we expect to have non-alcoholic drinks included with the meals? Maybe wine with dinner if we are lucky...?
sorry if I offended anyone, didn't mean to
i'll cut down on the smilies if that's a problem.
Thanks for the information
Will still use smilies as I find them so helpful, thanks
When we arrived at Monastir at around 11 pm there were scores of taxis outside with drivers jostling to get our custom. We were thankful to get into one and with our large cases were happy to agree 10TD for the trip to a nearby hotel. This turned out to be about 3 times the metred rate but by UK standards it was still pretty cheap.
Money change facilities were open in the arrivals hall.
Any help would be much appreciated and we leave on 7th August YAY, cant wait.
Thanks in advance all
Is there anybody who can tell me about the price for a taxi from Monastir Airport to Hammamet.
Thanks !
Pittie
Go to Sousse louage station, no more than 10TND, then get a louage from Sousse to Hammamet for about 7TND, after that you can get another taxi to your hotel which wont cost much.
Does anyone know how much will it cost for a taxi from Monastir airport to Hammamet?
