Scouse mags,

XLA130 is a Boeing 747-300. TF-AME (in the photo) is currently servicing the flight. They don't have seat back IFE. For further info, click here.

Hi Scouse Mags,

Depending on what class of seat you have purchased depends on the kind of IFE you will receive. Sunshine First have hand held personal entertainment systems, Premium have seat back TV,s Upper and Economy have main TV screens. You can however purchase the rental of (subject to availability) the hand held system that contains more movies, games, music and short programmes. Hope this helps!

Xl appear to be trying to shaft us with a potential bill of £320 for excess baggage.

We booked (on-line) flights for 4 divers next month to Hurghada back in October - part of the reason for using XL as opposed to TCX etc is that they offer a 10kg additional baggage allowance for divers. The flight number quoted on our booking confirmation was XLA 2300 & XLA 2301 for the return leg.

Tickets have just arrived - and we now have a monarch flight number - so I e-mailed XL a couple of days ago to confirm that we still get the 30kg luggage allowance and have received the following reply;

Thanks for your email,

Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you, I have just spoken to Monarch and they have said they offer 5 kilos free of charge if you are a qualified diver which can present a Padi card. If you where still looking to have excess baggage then this is charged at £8 per kilo and this can be paid at the airport.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you.

Inconvenience - more like bankruptsy!!! £8 per kilo for 5kg per passenger is £80 each for the return trip - or a whopping, unbudgeted total of £320. They haven't previously notified us at all that we have been rebooked on to Monarch.

Can they do that ?????

simonlee,

XLA264V is currently a Boeing 737-8Q8. IFE is provided on most flights.

TAH-M,

Unfortunately, they can do it. In the small print of the terms and conditions of booking, there's a clause that they reserve the right to ammend flight details. I can't remember the actual wording, but they can do it. Also, some of XL's flights are code shares and are actually operated by other airlines. Did you have anything in writing with XL requesting additional baggage for diving equipment? When I take my gear with me, I always get something in writing to confirm I'll be taking diving equipmenmt with me just in case there is a problem. If you have something in writing with XL to say you've requested and reserved the 10kg sports equipment allowance, you may be able to make a claim against XL for the baggage fees since this is a breach of the terms of your booking.

No - didn't bother with the confirmation this time since I've used them several times in the last year or so and never had a problem.(typical!) Just checked the website which said (and still says) that you get the extra 10kg for diving - and nothing - but nothing- to say that we weren't flying XL this time until the tickets arrived. Previously have been on XL booking operated on wet-lease by KM - and not had problem with that one either and used the full 30kg allowance - but monarch are a bit of a law unto themselves. It's the U/W cameras etc that mess up the allowance - my full kit weighs in at about 24kg before I pack as much as a towel & I'm off on a liveaboard for part of the hol. so can't skimp on the spares kit or meds.!

Have replied to the e-mail received from XL today saying that an additional bill for something in the region of £320 isn't acceptable, so will have to wait to see what comes out of that - but I guess I'm in trouble!!!
