My question is why drink so much so that you know you will have a hangover??

If it turns your urine that colour then I really dread to think what you are doing to your liver.

Each to their own I suppose.

:D Hi thanks for the tip!

I only have to have a couple of drinks to feel rough in the morning, so will take some of these away - Some people do suffer with hangovers more than others -(regardless of the amount drunk)), other half can have 10-12 pints, roll in at 2, and be up (Full of beans ) at 7 for a full English!

Regards, BBB.

I think I'll try some as I do seem to get a hangover much quicker if I've had a couple of drinks in the sun - and those swim up bars are soooooooo deadly

Great tip, i'll look out for them.

I've heard of Berocca before, but just as a "pep up" if you're feeling a bit tired. I usually use Alka Seltzer or Resolve for hangovers.
I've heard that if you take Milk Thistle tablets this can prevent hangovers too. Sanji may be able to tell us a bit more about this.

Answer: because you're on holiday... that's what we do

I also swear by resolve..................and a full english.

Hey

The reason the urine is discoloured is because Berocca contains vitamin B complex- when the body had sufficent B complex vits absorbed from the supplement it excretes the excess and this is why the urine appear bright yellow. This is normal so no worries there

I'd never heard of them TBH, but I don't drink apart from a drop of brandy in my coffee during the winter months in Benidorm and maybe the odd glass of sangria or G&T and they take some getting down :yuck
After studying the ingredients, Berocca is a high vitamin/mineral supplement and contains the B vitamins (riboflavin) which is a water soluble vitamin and any excess the body doesn't need is filtered through the kidneys and expelled in the urine, the body can't store this vitamin hence the colour change in the urine, but your urine would naturally be more darker and stronger smelling if you are suffering from dehydration, that's always a good indicator whether or not you are drinking enough water per day . the urine should be clear (ish) and pale in colour.

You get a hangover because the more alcohol you drink (alcohol is a diuretic), the more dehydrated you become, which causes an electrolyte imbalance the sodium and potassium levels drop as well as other minerals.
Looking at the ingredients, the effervescent type contains 285mg of Sodium and the other tablet form does not, so anyone watching their salt intake should take note, also the effervescent type by being soluble is "instant" whereas the tablet would need to be dissolved and broken down by the gastric juices before being absorbed into the blood stream.

You'd think drinking water to replace the fluid would help, but if you drink too much water too fast you can make the problem worse by depleting the minerals, salts and sugar levels even more.
Nice and easy does it, regular moderate amounts will slowly bring the equilibrium back to normal "¦why do you think we put people on a drip.? when in some cases we could just pour a bottle of water down their throats.? Well apart from the tissues not being able to absorb it quickly enough, it would have the effect of depleting more vits, minerals and trace elements by "flushing".

So yep, I would say this product may help you feel good/better because it also contains zinc and magnesium and apparantly the more the magnesium levels drop, the bigger the headache.
I wouldn't under any circumstances take more than one supplement a day, the vitamin levels are higher than the recommended daily amount (RDA) and too many vitamins/minerals can have adverse effects, the link clearly states that taking more than one tablet a day is not recommended and can be harmful.

Anyone who is a diabetic should consult their GP as they also contain sugar and sweeteners.

Potassium and sodium chloride control the balance of fluids in the body and a good source of potassium is bananas, so a couple of bananas will do you the world of good along with a bag of crisps and fresh orange juice.
But the bottom line is that there is no known cure for a hangover and it is the liver that has to eliminate the alcohol, over 90% is taken directly from the stomach to the liver via the portal vein, the rest is expelled unchanged through urine, sweating and the breath....so while you are walking around like a bear with a sore head, your liver is working double overtime and Berocca can't stop that happening.

You've certainly done some homework Sanji!
Apparently there are a lot of hotels in Australia that put Berocca in their rooms free of charge for the guests to use, especially if there is a conference on! :bow

I Like red wine and when away, hubby always orders me a glass of red wine and a bottle of still water , I always drink the water in between drinkin the wine and i very rarely have an hangover, it works a treat for me. Never used the resolve or alka seltzer as too much salt content in them and with having high blood pressure need to watch my salt intake. Cheers Jayjan

Hi Tish
Yes I read that, but I tend to think (and I could be wrong) that it is for people who become brain dead from and during conferences and its application is more geared towards a "pick me up" for people who are burning the candle at both ends and skipping meals in high pressure jobs, rather than implying they are consuming large amounts of alcohol after the conferences have finished, but maybe drinking Berocca has cleared their head after a drinking session and this has given credibility to the product regarding hangovers.
The website is promoting the product as supporting concentration and alertness"¦just what you need during a conference, they usually go on for hours and are full of hot air, enough to send anyone to sleep
I've no doubt that these people socialise, but it would be a foolish person who gets tanked up during the evenings and then early morning has to sit around the table with board members etc well that is if they value their future employment prospects.

I'd never heard of it and I'm just nosey, I like to find out about things like this, I find it interesting and tend to get too engrossed, so a short post becomes like a thesis when I've finished.
I'll tell you why I get interested in things like this
On the link below if you click on "about Berocca" and whats NOT in it, it states NO SUGAR, but if you click on the FAQ's and the concerns about diabetics, it says the effervescent tablets DO contain sugar and artificial sweeteners, well that might mean bugger all to me, but to a diabetic that could mean everything, even if the amounts are low.
Same as the sodium levels if you have high blood pressure, 285mg of sodium is something you could do without, but the website doesn't say anything about it and only by looking on the tinternet did I find out about the customer warnings regarding the sodium levels.... that puts my hubby out of the question, he has high blood pressure and is taking beta blockers combined with a diuretic and any salt intake is monitored by moi.!
I have enough problems nagging him that he shouldn't be drinking anyway, without adding salt to the list....I hope I've managed to educate him on the salt intake levels.

As usual, great info from Sanji - thanks :D
I was wondering, Sanji, what you could tell us about Milk Thistle as a hangover prevention/cure? I've heard if you take the tablets before a "session" and then again in the morning, it eases the symptoms.

hi, i have been in boots today and berroca is quite expensive think it was £4.50 or something like that for 15 tablets, this is the minimum you can get they also come in larger packs too. well this would work out quite expensive if you have to have 1 befor goin out 1nd 1 when you get back, and there 2 of us too.

i was wondering, i have seen a different version (cheeper!) they are b-vitamins and it says its for more energy- like berroca is, they have most of the same ingredients as berroca the b-6 b 12 etc, and it was something like £3.50 for 90 tablets.
so i was wondering do you think these would work just as good?
i have also brought some resolve too which is said to help by settling the stomach
thanks x

cyberspacekadette,,,,,, have tried Milk Thistle and it did'nt work for me,

but then I get a hangover just walking past an off sales

I believe Milk Thistle just helps repair cells in your liver from the alcohol, and doesn't help as a hangover cure.

Personally, if I'm going to be drinking enough to feel rough in the morning, then I always make sure I have a steady intake of water in between drinking alcohol. This helps keep hydratation levels up, and also help dilute the alcohol, I hope lol.

I also have a glass of water before I go to sleep.

This method seems to work wonders.
