Can I spend US Dollars in sharm.

We were going to Mexico and got given some dollars that fell apart so now off to Sharm in sept. As the Dollars were a gift we don't have the receipt to change them back into pounds so can we spend them in sharm. Or will we be able to change them in sharm even though we have GB passports.
I should have read thru the page before posting as Just found a huge thread on money. I'll copy & paste this on there.
