We have stayed in both, we preferred beach club as its closer to beach, day and evening entertainment, supermarket, and very importantly Western Saloon! Also we felt it had a nicer more personal feel to it. The hotel was nice but we found our room was not as spacious as the Club, the lifts were a nightmare to contend with (always full), restaurant v big but also gets crowded, and - MAJOR CONSIDERATION - the evening entertainment takes place in the Beach Club alongside the Western Saloon, this is on 'resort' level (the hotels are built on higher levels - the resort is a bay surrounded by cliffs). There is a very useful glass lift going from the hotel to the beach club, but it is switched off at midnight sharp! We always liked to linger over our drinks for a little while at the end of the evening, and it can be a real pain to walk up the steps to the hotel instead of taking the lift, if you have enjoyed a few of Jose's cocktails earlier!!!!! Also, if you have anyone who requires carrying (pushchair/wheelchair or even just a few too many to drink!), this will be an interesting challenge if you miss the last lift! This is the only lift which stops at midnight by the way - the ones in the hotel are 24/7 but as I said earlier, you can wait a long time when they are busy.
We are in Beach Club for a week from 1st sept, and then again end of next June for 2wks (couldnt have let Zorro go without saying goodbye!)

Thanks for your reply - I booked the hotel (purely on price by the way - it was £200 cheaper than the club)!
I guess its an excuse to burn off some of the those extra holiday calories!!
I'm looking forward to it now! only 11 months to go!

Spoke to Zorro this year and he told me that if he knew who started the rumour that they are leaving, he would rip their head off. He was quite clear that none of the animation team had any intention of leaving.
can anyone tell which resturants are in which hotels,and where do you have to go to book them i.e reception of the hotel you are staying at.it gets a bit confusing when there are 3 hotels to choose from.

you will be settled in by the time we get there.
we are flying from liverpool on the 11th. we will be staying at the hotel.
the exercise to and from the beach and entertainment area will do me
good. I hope that there is also a bar in the hotel so that I can get a drink
on the way back to my room. xx

The beach is coarse sand - ok to walk on barefoot (if it's not too hot). Mini train runs to Portinatx a couple of times a week - mornings and afternoons, check the times where it picks up (opposite the small supermarket next to the beach).
There is a bar on the ground floor of the hotel which is ideal for taking a drink up to your room after a hard days sunbathing.

Thanks Mick - just wondering whether to take beach shoes (needed them on the shingle in Turkey last year) but will probably be OK with my flip flops. I stayed in Portinatx many many years ago when I was a little girl, it would be nice to go and see it again for a few hours, take some photos to take home to mum and see how much it's changed.
joanmc - give us a wave when you arrive, I'm the tall single mum with salon blonde hair and two teenagers (also salon blonde) We will probably be around wherever the entertainment is going on (I don't get out much the rest of the year...)

when going through passport control. it was supposed to start in june.

Ive just come back from Benidorm. Apparently Spain requires the address and place of birth of each passenger. We did not supply any of this information - I think its taken automatically from the passport and booking details.
We did have a small delay checking in at Cardiff but this was because they checked eveyone in for about 4 flights through the same 6 check in desks rather than have separate ones for each flight. They did the same on our return through Alicante. I don't know why Thomson are doing this? I did worry that our luggage was going to end up in the wrong place.....it didn't thankfully.
So no, we didn't see any difference really

Hey Micknmill........thank you so much for making my day! When I read on here that they were leaving after the 2008 season I rushed to book up immediately for June, (although we were planning to go there anyway!) and felt very sad that the best entertainment team we have ever come across would no longer be around.
So your news is massively welcome, and we will look forward to many more hols at San Miguel! Incidentally, I first read that they were leaving on this discussion board............if you look back through I am sure the post is still there. I might have a look myself just so I can join Zorro in a bit of head-ripping-off!!!

Hi Izzy, there is a supermarket close by (you cant miss it, its just over the road) which always used to sell ciggies 'under the counter' due to laws in Ibiza. You just need to ask the man or lady on the till, they don't do a whole variety of brands but should have b&h, marlboro etc. They only sell cartons of 200 and you need to pay cash from what I remember. We tended to buy a local brand (I have forgotten the name but it might have been something like Fortune) which were just the same as Mayfair, Richmond etc. Also, you can get single packs from a machine in the fish restaurant right by the beach, they are not any more expensive and you still get 20 to a pack! Useful if you run out after the supermarket is closed! Hope this helps.
Oh, and there is a 'tabac' shop in San Miguel village (its a couple of miles or so up the hill, but I think would be a very long walk) - havent been there but apparently its near the church. If you go up there I would take the bus (timetables in reception), or a taxi is fine if you don't mind paying the extra!

Hi Fitzmum, you will have a wonderful time there wherever you are staying I am sure! I did actually forget to put the plus points for the hotel..........there is a lovely ground floor air conditioned bar in hotel where drinks are served in real glass glasses - by the beach club pool the 'glasses' are plastic for obvious safety reasons. Also the hotel has a launderette on same level as that bar, and a tapas bar, and its not so far to nip up to the Mexican corner at the Galeon either! Likewise, if you go to see the nearby Caves, its not such a long walk.........the Caves are worth seeing and lovely and cool on a very hot day too!

Are there any problems with mosquitos or other pests in San Miguel at this time of the year? Just making a start on my packing and wondering whether to pack a repellent spray for the evenings.
The only supermarket selling ciggies this year was the Spar next to the chinese restaurant. 200 Bensons 32.50 euros. The pizza bar on the beach also does single packs of 20, but only those 'Fortuna' ones - white packet with a red stripe on it.
We took the mini train trip round to Portinatx where there is a tabac shop, so killed two birds with one stone so to speak.
