When you pay less for a big quantity ie say 12 T-Shirts for £5, this is when you are buying poor quality. In May I bought 4 pairs of jeans(2 x Hugo Boss, 1 x Levi and 1 x Georgio Armani) from a shop in Bodrum for £45 and these were top quality fake, you wouldn't know the difference. Quality sport shirts 3 or 4 for £15, good quality material. 20 pair of Calvin Klein Boxer shorts at £10 and they do wash really well and last. I bought a pair of Levi jeans from Hisaronu Market seven years ago and they are only just starting to fade and there haven't been many days when I haven't worn them in all that time.
Make sure you go to Fethiye Market on a Tuesday, it is huge and well worth the visit. Hisaronu Market wasn't bad but no where near the scale of Fethiye. If you are looking for jewellery then take the Dolmus up to Hisaronu and look at Pinara Gold and Oz Gold.

You will get real designer clothes in the shops in Fethiye, last time I was there, there was a Tommy Hilfiger shop and a Lacoste one I think. All the market stuff will be fake, obviously but some of it can be good quality.
Was there for two weeks and the first week at the Hisaronu market we managed to get 2 fleecy adults hoodies (one was DC and one was Fox) for 38 lira (about £16)...
The following week we are stood at the same stall ready to do the same deal for 2 different hoodies for our friends and some idiot girl walks up and parts with 50 lira (£20) for 1 hoodie... WTF...
Have people never heard of TK Maxx and Primark... you can get a hoodie in Primark for about £8 back home or a genuine branded one in TK for about £20 so why do people pay so much for fakes in Turkey?
After the above, the stall holder obviously refuesd to sell to me again at 38 lira and was telling me he wanted 90 lira and would not budge.....
Turkey isn't as cheap as it used to be and for some things, its not hard to see why....

I have also found this on the last visit to turkey. I cannot understand why people do this as part of the fun is the bartering. Jacqui
I only ever part with my money if i like the stall/shop owner and he,s willing to barter and have a bit of fun . On my last trip to turkey a few weeks ago I noticed many shopkeppers now give you a high price and if your not willing to pay it they just let you walk away without a word. that wouldnt of happened a few years ago .
i agree with you lynwestie, we were there in july and a shop up by taj mahal wouldn't barter with us so off we go to another shop round the corner opposite the Negris hotel. a lovely woman and her hubby sold us t-shirts, hoodies and a tracksuit, can't remember how much for now. but i didn't have enough and she said just to come back tomorrow, when we did she had the apple tea out for us, a rarerity (sp) now too.
I agree totally, its all part of the fun to barter and I had a laugh with loads of people bartering for different things but I too noticed in Hisaronu market that there were a lot of very moody shop keepers.
As above, they give a high price and then won't barter at all, or they will get the huff and start telling you to go away, not even budging by a couple of Lira...
I tried to avoid these people and buy from elsewhere!
Yes definately a few moody ones. and I love bartering . there were quite a few that just didnt seem interested in doing so any more. there was One shop where i bought a couple of handbags , the lady that did the deal with me was english . I had checked out prices so sort of knew what I wanted to pay and she gave me a good price for 2. at the same time she gave me a couple more "best i can do" prices on another couple of things . At couple of nights later I went back to get them and was served by a man who wanted double . he wouldnt budge .needless to say he lost that sale and there were many more shopkeppers the same. handbags in particular they didnt seem to want to barter for . watches you could still have plenty of fun with . and some of those handbags are rediculous prices
Here's a good tip for you all who go back, Go to the same people you dealt with the last time, If you spend a lot they remember you and give you better value the next time and the time after that also, They look on this as you look after them they then in turn will look after you.
For most people it's all part of the holiday in Turkey to barter for goods but there must be many people just like me who don't go on holiday to shop, we go for the atmosphere, the people, the weather, the food, the drink.
i agree if i want to go shopping , i tend to do it in the UK
But the temptation of buying these Fake designer clothes (some are outsanding quality) is far to much for many many people who go to Turkey, Ckeck the price and if your happy with the Item then you will buy it, Oh and check the Item very carefully also as you might find something wrong with it as that happens a lot also.
