we went to hvv and was s/c. we ate at the hotel for breakfast. it is buffet, so filled the kids up for the day! you just use your card and charge it to account. i like to go out in the evening for meals and don't like being tied to meal times.
when we had an evening meal at the hotel, you don't all sit together at the same time as the kids kept getting up to get more food. also dinner was over in half an hour. if you all left the table the waiters cleared it and once tried to sit another family there.! my idea of hell.
there is a shop on site but bit expensive. there is a better supermarket that the locals use just ten minutes away. lovely fresh stuff. loads of places to eat in the town as well. didn't do any cooking and we spent less than upgrading to ai. if you are big drinkers then ai is the better choice just for that.

Does anyone know what Television channels the Viva has?

Just wanting to know as i'm going to miss the Scotland game on the 13th and dont think any bars will have it on as England are playing the same day and most bars will show that game instead.

Or if anyone knows what bar if any will show the Scotland game.

Yours in hope

hi nezi you may have a problem watching the game at the hvv as the sports bar is not open during the day. theres one big screen in the main bar which will probaly showing england. but if its a night match the sports bar has every channel you will need and 5 or 6 screens to watch which show different channels at the same time best of luck have a great time. :D

Both games kick off at 3pm and the Scotland game is on sky sports but not sure about the England game.

Anyone whose children used the Swimkids Club at the Viva will be sad to read the post about the holiday rep who is missing.

Hi.....i can't believe this forum is so quiet either......... :( thinking of going for a week in august (just returned from fuerteventura and missing it already!) we went to hv turkey a couple of years ago, but my children are now 13 and 10, do you think my 13 year old daughter will be bored......(teenagers!) also what is the situation like with sunbeds, and are there plenty of umbrellas as must have some shade. :sun2

I stayed here 2 yrs ago in August there wasnt too many teenagers if your daughter still likes the entertainment she will be fine otherwise i think hv costa del sol had loads more stuff for older kids. Sunbeds remain locked until 8.30 but there is more of a queue for the umbrellas, from about 7.30am. im going again this yr and plan to buy an umbrella from the onsite shop and sit on the grass rather than the madness by the pool ( if they still sell them :cheers )

Hi thanks for your reply........we went to hv turkey when it opened and again last year for a week, my daughter wasnt really interested in the clubs then, but my son loved them ! we also took our own parasol (next £5) and plastic base (tesco value £2) and wrapped them in black bin sacks with a label and they arrived no problem and were no hassle to carry etc...................will definately be doing that again because i like some shade but can't be doing with the early rising for sunbeds and umbrellas :sun2 !!!!

hi we are going to this hotel shortly, just been reading about the one in portugal and apparently you are allocated a sitting for your evening meals and this is clashing with some of the kids entertainment...do they have the same system at this hotel and if anyone has been what is it like by the way i mean the one in majorca...

The Holiday Village Viva do not operate a seating system. The Holiday Village Algarve have stopped operating their seating system, have been following this thread closely because we're going in October but I had e-mailed the hotel asking for our preferred seating times anyway. The HV Viva is lovely. It is spotlessly clean with loads going on for young and old. The apartments are spacious and well equiped. We had a great holiday there, one of our best yet.

Hello

I will going to the holiday village viva in 3 weeks time (august) just wondering whether there are any mosquitoes in the actual complex? Do I need to bring insect repellant and those plug ins for the rooms?

It's my first packaged holiday with the kids so I hope it will be as good as most of the reviews say it is. Just worried about the heat & mosquitoes since my kids are still quite young.

Any tips will be great!!
Thanks

We didn't see any mozzies but did see a few people who had obviously been bitten by something but not sure if it was mozzies. They had great big red 'lumps' on them that looked awful. I always take insect repellants just in case they are needed, never needed them so far (touch wood) which is a surprise because the good old Scottish midge usually makes a right meal of my husband and middle child.

Thanks for the info on mosquitoes.....will bring insect repellants just in case.

Another quick question. Looking through everybody's comments about the beach. Some say it's an easy 10 mins walk others say it's quite far to walk especially in the heat. Will it be easier and more comfortable if we took a taxi there? How easy is it to get taxis to the beach and back?

I have two children aged 3 & 6 so I don't want them to walk in the heat (the younger one will be in a buggy).

Thanks again for any useful info......

Hi Amy

It is a 10 minute walk to the beach, lovely going because it's downhill, bit differant coming back because it is quite a climb in the heat. The staff at reception were really helpful and were quite happy to phone for a taxi for us when we needed one, taxis could be found in the main street just up from the beach for the return trip. Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks for the info Liz....

We hope to have a good time with the kids. We will probably be the only ones who won't be fighting for sunbeds during the holiday.....we don't like sunbathing and will just be happy to sit in the shade.

Hi everyone have been checking out going to Ca'n Picafort in 2009 and have been looking at Viva Holiday Village and Viva Mallorca. They are listed separately in the brochure and I've checked the Viva website but when I google them they sound like they're the same hotel. Anyone any ideas??

Thanks :tup
