I don't think you can "do" the island in 3 days. We had a car for 2 weeks and still didn't see evrything.
I can recommend autoreisen, we had a brand new SEAT Ibiza for 221 euros and dropped it at the airport, saving us taxi fares.
Well, I have been recommending to my clients all these years that three days is about right to see all the island One day to see the south, one day to see the north, and then one other day to go back to those places you passed on the way to the tourist sites!!! That of course, is dedicated touring! There are seven main tourist attractions, so if you only do one a day then yes, you need a car for longer, but if you are only there for a week, I say three days is ample
I can drive for miles though and often do 200 miles for a run in the car in Scotland. We did 600 miles in our hire car, getting lost a lot pushed it up though
However, if people are only here for a week, I would think they will be wanting to spend a lot of that time just relaxing and soaking up the sun, so a compromise of three days with a car, will allow people to see the majority the sites/sights!!
An afternoon in Deiland, or a day (a day ) in Arrecife, wouldn't be the first things to spring to mind, for me!!!!!!!

I'm married
Next time drop your wife in Arrecife, go off yourself to Puerto Calero, and tell her to catch the bus to meet you when she's finished!! Sorted
Have to say that every time I come on holiday to CT I always hire a car for the full two weeks. This way I pick it up and drop it off at the airport. It also comes in handy when we go to the Aquapark or every time my son and I go and play golf. We also go for a drive most days and visit our favourite spots. When my son is with his mates (ones he makes in the hotel or the few he already has over there) my wife and I like to drive down to Puerto Calero and spend a couple of hours over lunch. To sum it up we wouldnt dream of hiring a car for less than the full fortnight.
Hi.. back from my holiday! Had an absolute ball... Rented a car as planned.. was brill. We went with Plus Cars. Id recommend them to anyone. We hired a mini convertible and it was gorgeous, perfect new clean. They give you a map of the island and for anyone worrying its fully comprehensive insurance and I mean fully comprehensive insurance with CDW. Just pick it up on the day and off you go. Handing back is easy, give them the key and thats it. Not checking up on you or anything. We loved it!! You can't go wrong!!! Well we didn't anyway!! Hope this helps others on the look out!!
Hi susihickey - did you book in advance or hire in resort when you got there? we are off on 22nd nov and have been advised as we only want car hire for 3 days to hire when we get there...i'm not sure how this works out price wise or if we still need to pay by credit card - would prefer to use cash once we get there.....if you or anyone else can help that would be fab...thanks msc
Although next year were gonna book from the airport back to the airport as that cost us 40 euro in taxis and for the whole week it would only cost about 120euro to hire a car so it makes sense really.
Hi adj27 - you cant by any chance remember the name of the company? so far every car hire company i have found on line that will deliver / collect from hotel or is available in Playa Blanca insists on payment by c/card which we would rather avoid..... msc
Ha ha the wife knows the comany we had hired with was cicar it cost 75e to hire and 25e petrol (for 3 days )
Booking on line all required credit cards, although not sure about hiring at the airport whether or not you you could just turn up on the day and drive away could be worth a try.
Or you could try the compay who you have booked with, all the flight companys do car hire maybe a bit more expensive but not loads. Mine for next year is booked xl takes the hassle out of everything
Your right though i dont like even taking the credit card with me never mind using it.
personally id ring the car hire at the airport and explain, if they want the business they'll hire you a car with no credit card!!!
Hope this help a little bit.
I prefer to leave as much plastic at home as i can its too tempting to use it - i have a trusty Nationwide flex account just for holidays and prefer to stick with that. Some places will accept it for payment as it has the visa symbol, but a lot need some sort of guarantee that only a credit card can offer..... although they wouldnt if they knew how much credit i had left
thanks again
I have booked car hire through Auto Reisen for the weekend with 2 drivers.
No problem with the first named driver but the second hasnt got his licence at the minute (been working away and its in a box on the way back to him) will they let him be a driver or not?
I have emailed auto riesen to ask aswell bit wondered if anyone on here knows.
Thanks in advance
Vicky
Doubt it very much vicky. It is actually the law here that you have your driving licence and identification on you at all times when you are driving.
Vicky, I used AutoReisen for my car hire last Easter and all drivers have to produce their driving licences when you sign the car hire contract at the airport.
Has anyone used AutoReisen before? Last year I hired a car with Hertx and when I got to the airport got told I would need to pay for excess waiver I think it was about £100. Do all hire companies do this as I have been quoted £87 for a seat ibiza for a week. If I then need to pay another £100 I will give it a miss.
Thanks
Paul
I always use Autoreisen and if I can help it will not use any other car hire company at Lanzarote. They are brilliant. There are no extras to pay, you can have as many extra drivers as you want at no extra charge and you can cancel upto 24hours before hire as you pay at the airport.
This summer Autoreisen did not have any cars left and I had to use Hertz and too got stung for the "extra insurance" because you feel you need to be covered for all eventualities.
Autoreisen are my first and only choice when it comes to car hire, its a pity they are only in the Canaries. They also allow you to hire the car for an additional 2 hours from the time you say you will drop the car off - eg, if you pre-book the car to drop off at 1300, they will give you until 1500 with no extra charge. This is brilliant, especially if your return flight home leaves a lot later than the one you arrived on as other companies make you pay for an additional day if you go over the 24hour day period.
Hope this makes sense!
One more thing, as they allow free cancellation, keep your eye on the prices as one time I pre-booked and then 5 days prior to travelling out I checked again on the website and the price had come down by 100 euros so I simply cancelled the first reservation and pre-booked the new one. It was exactly the same car as I had selected first time around!
OK thanks for the advice I will just book it just now. Roll on December the 2nd!!!!
