To be honest if it gets rid of the football shirt brigade and the younger visitors who want to go on a bender for 2 weeks then I personally don't have a problem with the price increases.
Right i'm 41 i love my rugby and wear my shirt with pride, if i'm away and a rugby match is on i go to the railway and watch it. And i would love to go on a bender for 2 weeks, but can't afford it in las americas.
If you do try and discourage this type of tourism then you will have nothing. I love the soul suite and rave about it. But i would never visit Jazzimo, i did once and got stung for the price of 15 euros for 2 drinks, never again. I can't afford that.
You now have to compete with the carribbean and Bulgaria, you only have to watch Benidorm uncovered now to see this.
Right i have just come back from a week in Benalmadena (costa del sol)
and i couldn't believe how cheap drinks were. I was paying 3 euros for a proper vodka (smirnoff) and tonic Britvic (prefer schweeps) but who can be fussy.
I love Tenerife and nothing will change that.
But i've said it before, i now spend a few nights in on my balcony, with a euro bottle of lira wine playing cards with my friends.
I don't want to do this, but i can't afford to go out in las americas every night.
No matter how much the 'council' have spent on the roadworks.
It is now much cheaper to go to the carribbean for 2 weeks all inclusive than do 2 weeks in Tenerife.
I've been going to Tenerife for years so i've seen all the tourist spots, la gomera, tiede etc. So now i just go for 2 weeks of relaxation.
My holiday costs us £600+ for 2 weeks self catering. Then we spend over £1000 for drinks and food.
I can book 2 weeks in mexico all inclusive for £499 each. Total £998
Now this is a massive saving.
So why should people go to Tenerife, when they can go farther a field for cheaper.
Benidorm has seemed to have cut its cloth, but Tenerife never seems to have.
And hairy are the ice cubes still bigger than the glass...........
