I just got back last night and was reliably informed by 2 of my heavy partying Goan friends that it's not opening as there was a stabbing and a rape last year. Seems there are various stories but it certainly is not looking like its opening.

Got back Monday was told on Sunday (30th December) that Club Cubanna was re - opening on New Years day with a big party, also noticed as we were driving past that the road up to the club has been resurfaced - hope it does re-open as my 19 year old daughter and her friends like to go clubbing and as previously said the cards do make good book marks and the comments make me laugh

Perhaps someone could confirm whether the opening party actually happened?

Cubana's did hold a NYE party, but it wasn't at Cubana's premises it was at a Russian place up at Morjim. The "Opening Soon" sign outside Cubana's has now disappeared so it looks like the party is over, also as stated in my previous post, the 10pm music ban is being enforced again and as Cubana's is not sound proofed they would quickly find themselves in trouble.

Makes you wonder how much the Russians are getting away with in Goa :| I wonder if they pay their backsheesh in Roubles 8)

This might be offtopic , sorry if it is, but i tend to think that the Russians are worse than Brits when it comes to the reputation abroad.
As said in a previous post, some Russians went into a bar with their own spirits, and just ordered soft drinks!! that is damn right cheeky.

Also, when we were there last year, we went to Mandrem beach, and a Russian walking their dog on the beach let it pop my sons football, then just grabbed the dog and walked off.

Thanks for your reply goldenflipflop, shame that they couldnt open.

The russian place where it was held is that the new place at the back of a hotel in Candolim (cant remember the hotel name). I was talking to someone at the airport who was complaining bitterly about a new club that had appeared behind his nice quiet hotel! which he had stayed for the last ten years. It was really noisy at night not just the music but also the traffic and car horns, apparently ruined his holiday :(

Sorry off topic but it makes you wonder what the thought process is when licences are granted for venues in close proximimty to hotels and resiential areas and others that are much more remote cant get one! or does it all come down to money again!

The Cubana party was held at a place in Morjim (not Candolim). The Russian Tourists seem to have settled in very nicely up North (Morjim, Asvem and Mandrem), also lots of Russians in Palolem last time I was there. Personally I haven't witnessed any bad behaviour from them, they just seem to like to sit on the beach all day and drink LOTS of Vodka!! They are very loud though and the girls wear the tiniest bikinis!! The locals do comment that they barter very hard and WILL NOT be swayed - they want everything on the cheap (apparently).

Funny thing happened to me and Mr Flip Flop over Christmas - we were up North staying in huts overnight and a group of 25 Germans came into the restaurant to eat. They started chatting to us but were surprised to find out that we were English......they expected us to be rolling drunk and dancing on the tables!!!.........Funny how different nationalities see others.

I've been here in Goa since October and there is definitely NO cubana. There are NO flyers on the beach, NO men in sparkly waistcoats giving flyers on the streets, NO cubana van doing the rounds advertising. The last time I spoke to Rahul he said that Cubana is NOT opening this season, so you see, as I said, it's finished!! Sorry to upset the applecart but thats the truth.

Yes where is the next best place to go now there is no Club Cubana. My OH's son (aged 22) and his girlfriend (aged 21) are coming with us in March and I am sure they might want to go clubbing some nights (but on their own not with us old fuddy duddys :yikes ;) )
