Could anyone advise me please on the best way to take/carry money on our holiday to thailand starting may 3rd? 3 nights bangkok, 3 nights phuket, 3 nights elephant hills and 3 nights krabi.
exchange before whilst in the UK? or over there? cash or travelers cheques. I have debit/credit card for back up. Also I have read somewhere that you have to carry your passport around you at all times, is this true?
thanks susan
True about passport but a photocopy ok , I put passport and money in hotel safe box and have my own key to drawer, and carry a little money and passport copy in a bum bag, it's up to you, travellers cheque or cash, debit card ok for ATM, and never let your credit card out of your sight as it is so easy to copy your card and empty your account, I pay cash in restaurants as they normaly take credit card away to swipe it.
Whoops I'm a naughty lad...never carried passport with me (except to banks etc when changing money). Always get money chaged over there as exchange rate so much better. Usually use TC's although they are getting a little harder to change as ATM's have sprung up all round the place.
Oh I have never heard that before about carrying your passport with you. Why do we have to do that?
I think to keep a check on us, wife is supposed to keep her Thai ID card on her person also, we spend first three days in a bangkok hotel and I am supposed to give forwarding address to somebody? when checking out but never have.
However, do scan your passport, important documents, insurance etc, and e-mail them to yourself at an account you can access from anywhere (i.e. yahoo, hotmail). This has saved many people many times!

Look under Local laws and customs, have read on forums about police fining people from 200-500baht tea money for not having proof of identity when asked.
