I had been looking at this one flight was £500 but if you got a return(LON->Houston,NY-LON) you could get it for £400, budget at least £100 for hotel and transfers

Also you have to add the Taxes and fuel so it takes it to $578 uk site is £372pp

There are other TAs to consider those from Florida good deals there and there is the NCL Gem from NY but prices are still high for that one.

Sorry I have just returned from a truly fabulous cruise on the QM2 and 2 nights precruise in NY.
Loved NY and felt totally safe there travelling on my own and I even rode the subway. At the suggestion of a Police Officer in the Rockerfeller Centre. Great.
I had 10 nights and had the best cruise I have ever had I felt in terms of company etc.
Flight upgrade with BA to Premier economy both ways. Upgrade to Times Square view at the Marriott Marquis. Complementary breakfast sent up to my room on the send morning.
Room on the QM upgraded from a D4 Inside to a C2 Ocean view ie 7 grades> bigger than the balcony as I had all the space inside with a large window where the balcony space would have been.
Several cocktail parties including one where all my CC friends were invited in a hand written note to me from the Commodore. He and the Hotel Manager came to our get together. The others had not been on the QM2 previously. This cruise as all of you know sold for a very low price. I did my own BA flights hotel and Cruise but it met my needs perfectly. Also a lovely hand written letter from the Commodore when he replied to my thank you note. He also left me a signed dedicated photo of the QM2 with the Statue of Liberty.

I will treasure these memories always. I am not so interested in the Azamara but I could get the May date for the 14 nights for £1799. Need to spend a bit less considering I am already booked on Millenniun for the 20th November cruise to New Zealand and Australia. I am staying in Perth so will nnot be home until the 6th January. I will also be going out a few days early I think to break the journey.

There are a lot of offers out there and I would love to do the QM in the Med but price is sitting at £1900 and the QV Canaries is too soon given that I would then need to wait until the 18th Nov. Really something in June/August would be best. Sorry I have missed all the offers and I will read back a bit and may see something. I won't consider a lot of cruise companies and that is just me. For me price is not everything and I know I am fortunate to be in this position.

Thanks and sorry again.

Yes I did have a wonderful even was taken to the Business Lounge for dinner prior to boarding my BA flight. Will never be so lucky again I should wonder.

I have now been home since Tuesday AM and I am putting my feet on the floor again. Yes I do always have itchy feet when I get back and always keen to line up the next cruise. Well I do have a cruise booked an expensive one to NZ&OZ so hold my horses.

I will find something that the price may be right and I don't think I should spend another £2000 right now. Was going to do the QM BTB T/A on the September with an added cruise to the New England. Almost booked it and then slept on it overnight. Next day booked the Millennium the QM was £2450 so not cheap and it is still there but I can't justify that spending.

Keep the offers rolling and as you say we all help each other. The Cruise I just came off Graham (Hamrag) put me on to a particular TA. In the end I would not book with him as he was too too pushy.
I was not going to let him away with it so emailed the Company and had exchanged several emails regarding this. Telephone conversations are good because it backed up how he dealt with me. He was given a written warning and I was offered a £ deduction if I booked with them in the future.
I suspect they will avoid me like the plague!! I had called Cunard and was asked to copy the email I sent to the TA to them.
Cunard do not want their guests treated in this way. I am a very strong woman and will not allow anyone to deal with me in this way.

We all have the power to change things in life. What we need is simply to have the will to do so.
I have taken on many challenges in life and could write a book. Lobbied my MP at Westminster and took on Mr Hoover and won. A cheeky TA rep is not going to be a problem to deal with and so I say to all of you out there JUST SIMPLY do what you need and have to and get the result you want.

Off your SOAPBOX Sue

Grateful for all the assistance and advice on these boards and this is way off target.
Why I am saying this is that I called and asked for an interview with the Hotel Manager. Did I get it absolutely. Did they try to query why I wanted to see him. Absolutely! Did I remain polite but assertive Absolutely. Did I achieve the result I wanted Absolutely.
This issue was not for me but for all the 1940 UK passengers on board a lot who have never cruised before or the first time on QM. Was I right Absolutely. Did it change things for that particular group YES it did. I opted not to do a tour and get transferred to the Airport but to book a day room at a Hotel and I was given a name and a hotel to contact by the Hotel Manager and to mention his name to them. Was I happy the outcome. For me absolutely. The hotel I called and I did this from Barbados were full but they gave me a telephone no for another hotel. The 2nd at said I could spend some time there and they were doubtful that a room would be available for around 11am. They told me simply to go there use their facilities and have lunch there etc. They were open to the public and whilst they did not need to store my baggage they did so. Did it cost me anything NO I had some soup and coffee. My reason for not doing the tour was that I had done it before and needed time to rest prior to the long haul flight. Did I save any money NO I took a limo to the Hotel and another to the JFK. Did it meet my needs absolutely.

Sorry to burden you with all this and it is way off topic but is written to give you some information which might help some of you in the future. Did I have any problems on my holiday NO I received an extra bottle of PROPER champagne in my room from Customer Services and beautiful hand made truffles in a wooden case from the head of reservations at Cunard. Would I cruise with them again absolutely!! Fantastic customer service where a lot of Cruise Companies don't do well and fantastic service on board. I was treated with a great deal of respect on board and made so many good friends with passengers and the Crew and the Senior Officers including my friend the Commodore.

Enough now off the soapbox. Sue

hi .I have been looking at a cruise with NCL on the Gem from New York going to the Carribean during Feb or March 2009 .I have noticed that it is priced at $890 per person with Best Price Cruise which I think is a very good price . The problem is I have never been to New York and feel a bit worried / unsure if we should do this on our own.

Could anyone give me a bit of help, is this is the best time to book ,what hotel to use , best time to book a flight any other tips you can give us. We are both in our late 40s and our first cruise was on the Carnival Destiny for our 25th wedding celebration. We enjoyed it very much ,and loved the freindships we made at Dinner. Like most people we like getting good value for our hard earned cash. so now you know all about us ,what do you think?
Thanks Kevin

A test booking at 8:30 this morning went through to payment, be quick these go fast once people find out about them. This olso means the couple rate of 270pp will probably not go cheaper.

To HolidayKev. Like you we first cruised for silver wedding about 4 years ago and were in our lateish forties at that time! To bring the story up to date our 10th cruise is booked on NCL Jade for 30 May and we are booked on the new P&O Ventura for October.

More to the point we returned from a Caribbean cruise out of New York on QM2 about a month ago. We self booked everything separately. The cruise price seems good, but are you sure it includes taxes/fuel supplement. I would go for this, and book. The flights will not be available yet for booking, we used cheapestflights.co.uk and went KLM, via Amsterdam to JFK from Glasgow for £350 each. We simply stayed at the airport Best Western, and this only cost £50 total, and included shuttle bus from airport to hotel and brekkie!!

You do need to get to NYC a day or two before sailing, in case of flight delay etc. especially at that time of year. We had no flight problems. From memory the pier for Norwegian is on the Newark Airport side of New York.

If you need any other help, just let me know. My advice would be get the cruise booked, you have plenty of time to sort out flight & hotel etc.

Thank you for your reply Hamrag, We too have a cruise booked in May and October .In May we sail on the Oceana to the Canaries from Southampton and in October we sail with Celebrity on the Century from Barcelona. So this bug that everyone has on this site, I think we have caught it.
Thanks for the advice re New York, I dont think the price includes tax or fuel duty, I have no experencie booking a cruise from a USA T/A ,I have read quite a few posts and have no worries booking in this way.I will do a dummy booking and find out that way.
I did think the air fare would be a bit cheaper than what you have suggested but I have no experence of this and guess I have been comparing Orlando flights we purchased some time ago and thinking now it was quite a long time ago (why are the years going so quickly now?).
I did think a hotel would cost a lot more than you stated ,i like the idea of staying at the airport (the wee boy in me comming out now)If we did go ahead with this cruise what should we set aside for Taxis ?
Thanks again for your help I am sure you gave us a bit of a hand when we booked the Century.
Thanks Kev

Looking at the QM2 12 nights in the Med leaving on the 14th June best price I see is £1745 D4 inside single occupancy and $189 OBC or a guarantee D8 at £1545 and the same OBC,
Anyone see a better price out there. Glass balcony A2 is £2850 and the onboard credit.

If my friend is prepared to pay the balcony price then I will go along with it but she is not going then I will wait for something a bit less expensive.
Just got those "itchy" feet again. Yes Graham you were right how would I cope between the 11th March and 20th November. Think now that I will do a stopover in Singapore and then fly direct to Auckland and spend a couple of night there also. It all adds to the cost but well I will save on the heating.
