Have a good look around, the football field area, there is a couple of small villages, tht have houses with apartments to let. Most of these prefer letting long term, This year we hired a one bedroom apartment, with a kitchen bathroom, huge balcony and bathroom for just 350 rps a night. You may have to spend tthe first couple of nights in an hotel, until you find an apartment, but you can look at your leisure.

Although we were paying 350 rps ( gone up to 400 rps for next year) there were a couple of people close to us, letting just rooms and a bathroom, for 750rps a night, one greedy so and so was letting a double room, with an en-suite bathroom, for 1000 rps a night, and she couldn't understand why no one was taking her rooms. We tried explaining to her why she was empty, but she was too greedy to reduce her prices, she even started selling books that previous stayers had left for 100 rps each, and tried opening a little cafe, but even the prices she was charging for the snacks and teas were way over the top. She had only recently had an extention, on the house, well I am sorry but at the prices she was charging, she wont be getting many visitors, to paay for the extention.

So you see it pays to have a good look around, the longer you stay the cheaper the rental in most cases. Most taxi and tuk tuk drivers know where the apartments to let are.

It realy depends what area you are looking at and what type of accommodation. We rent a 3 bedroom house for approx £100 a month and we are about a mile from the beach. As mentioned above book into a hotel for a few nights and ask around. One word of warning down put more than a month's rent down as a deposit as some people have found it difficult to get their deposits back.

Thank you for the advice, I'm glad I have an idea of the prices now and feel less likely to be ripped off. I am going on my own so a one bed apartment would be fine as long as safe, secure and clean. Air-con would be great but I guess this would really boost the price. Is the football field area near Candolim?

The football field is in Candolim, any where around there are loads of rooms and apartments to let.

One thing to remember when renting long term - Make sure everything is included in the agreed rent rate. It's been known for tenants to get an elctricity bill mid way through the season because "it wasn't included in the rent" Also make sure that gas re-fills are included for your stove and that the property comes with 24hrs water supply....just a few little things that i've learnt over the years!!!!

It is a good idea to check an area before you book for a long stay. Some places can be very noisy especially at night with barking dogs or bands practising. If you are alone make sure the area is well lit also.
